Debunked! Wal-Mart Ultra Magnus Listing Is G1 Re-Issue
bwbm - Thursday, July 12, 2007

We posted a rumor yesterday that Wal-Mart may be carrying a U.S. version of Masterpiece Ultra Magnus based on the weight listed on the product listing.

Well, this rumor has been debunked. It seems like many people's initial reaction of it being a boosted-up price for the Toys 'R' Us-exclusive Generation 1 re-issue of Ultra Magnus has prevailed.

"Tryphonus" of the Allspark did some legwork and called Hasbro, Inc. to inquire about this listing. The representative said that there is no indication that there has been a reproduction or even a shipping of the toy by Hasbro.

The representative speculates that Wal-Mart may have been sitting on a bulk of this product and decided to sell it on hopes of the newly released "Transformers" movie would help sell some of them.

Further confirming that this is the re-issue, "STPrime" of our TFans board received a shipping listing with the shipping weight being listed at two (2) pounds. This is despite the fact that Wal-Mart has the product weight listed as six (6) pounds on its product page. The weight was noted yesterday in the TFans discussion that took place when the rumor first popped up.

It's been a little while, but the TF @ The Moon team has once again released some lost studio recording audio from the G1 cartoon for everyone to enjoy. The latest samples come from The Ultimate Doom part 3, and the followup episode Countdown to Extinction. Of special note, Countdown to Extinction features a few Optimus Prime lines done by a fill-in in place of Peter Cullen, who sounds a lot like Chris Latta to us. These lines were obviously never meant for broadcast, and are another rare inside look at some of the technical side of the making of the old cartoon. Both videos are embedded below and are definitely worth a listen!
