Evergreen & Bumblebee Movie Lines To Debut In The Fall As Part Of Coordinated Brand Refresh?
RAC - Saturday, February 10, 2018

TFW2005 has posted their report on Hasbro's 2017 Full Year Financial Call, and they were particularly interested by a particular quote from CEO Brian Goldner. And so are we! The quote suggests that everything on the horizon - Evergreen, Cyberverse, and the Bumblebee Movie line - is going to hit at the same time in the fall. Keep reading to see!
When we talk about our Bumblebee movie, it’s really the focal point of an entire blueprint activation that will take place around [Christmas] time of year. And we will bring to bear all of the different strengths and power inside the blueprint to bring Bumblebee and Transformers to life at that time. So, we know that there is an amazing array of entertainment with the beneficiaries of a lot of that that’s in the world today and we think our brand like Bumblebee and Transformers holds its own.

If RAC's hypothesis about the meaning of the shortness of Power of the Primes holds true, this likely means that Hasbro's "blueprint" is a full brand refresh, a symbolic move away from the Michael Bay era. And so we should expect to see the Evergreen main line, Cyberverse, and Bumblebee: The Movie all around the same time as the execution of that blueprint.

Given the usual timeframe of such a debut - 1 to 2 months before a movie's premiere - We'd suggest that October would be a good time to be looking for both these lines. With Solo: A Star Wars Story hitting in May and Star Wars revenue on the decline for Hasbro, slotting in Transformers as the fall merchandise push seems logical.

2005 also reminds us that Authentics - and by extension the "Evergreen" styling - are part of Generations. This coupled with Cyberverse's using of the Evergreen designs only strengthens the argument that Evergreen will supplant Generations as we know it at the close of the Prime Wars Trilogy, essentially making Generations (in some form) the main line for Transformers for the next few years.

Hasbro Pulse's Instagram account has an interesting little feature today, an image depicting a process they call "pretengineering" or "pretend engineering." This seems to be their catchphrase for the very early parts of developing new Transformers, before going to prototyping, where things like the movable parts, gimmicks, and special design details are all plotted out in lineart to explore the form the designers would like the toy to take as it moves in to the physical design stage. The subject model here seems to be an early iteration of the Cyberverse line's Megatron, which really goes to show how far the development cycle can go from initial idea to realized toy. UK Toy distributor NDA Toys has posted stock images for the Transformers: Cyberverse Ultimate Class figures, Optimus Prime and Megatron! Listed under their Seinfeld-themed internal development codenames of "Peterman" and "Newman," respectively, this is the best look we've gotten at the $30 pricepoint figures so far. Both look good, though articulation-sticklers may not be thrilled that Megatron seems to lack elbows. Keep reading for the images!
Its that time of year again, when McDonald's rolls out another batch of Transformers Happy Meal Toys. The sighting by way of MLP Merch, offers up a reveal from Russia of all places. The toys that will riding along side Cutie Mark Crew Themed My Little Pony toys will be PVC super-deformed Transformers robot figures! A nice change from the gimmicky toys of the past.
This is a basic, budget Transformer. It's still fun though. Check it out with me.
