Ion Blaster Commander - An Unofficial Masterpiece Of A Completely Different Scale
ExVee - Saturday, April 14, 2018

Newcomer M-Deck is making a strong first appearance in the unofficial Transformers-derived merchandise scene with Ion Blaster Commander, a human-scale replica of Optimus Prime's iconic rifle. Coming in at 39 inches long (or about 1 meter), M-Deck presents this rifle replica as being approximately 1/10 scale. The final product is planned to have numerous lighting elements and sounds, and the images of the current prototype look promising. You can find those photos plus more info below!

The planned overall dimensions are listed as a length of 39 inches, a width of 5 inches, and height (overall from base of grip to top of the stock) of 13 inches. What's not known are two fairly important factors: the final weight of the production piece, which is likely to be a matter of some concern given the overall size and extensive electronics. And the price is not yet decided, which is likely to be a matter of some concern given the overall size and extensive electronics. The production run size is not yet determined, and the M-Deck website refers to using the preorder phase to help decide the final numbers. But, they do assure that there will only be one production of this rifle, setting it up as something of a collector item.

Besides these basic concerns, another important one might present itself: import regulations. While Optimus Prime's rifle is not at all the most realistic depiction of a firearm, it may still be illegal to bring this item in the US and sell it without an orange barrel cap. While such could be added to the finished rifles, it does present an extra level of complication in what is likely to already be a complex item to get launched.

However, if all of the hurdles can be overcome, this is certainly an interesting and different direction to see a third party take, breaking away from the popular genres of unofficial product. Hopefully it's an example that will begin to catch on!

Thanks to forums member KumaStyle who's shared a toy review of Iron Factory IF EX-30 Cygnus unofficial edition of the classic Jetfire / Skyfire characters. "Iron Factory’s latest isn’t just one of their best offerings but one of the best Legends-classed figures ever made. Cygnus is a must have, and checking the review after the jump will definitely show you why." Watch the full Iron Factory IF EX-30 Cygnus video review below.

We've gotten Legends-class Bumblebees before, officially and unofficially. But far, far fewer of those were in fact Legends scale. What's the difference? Check out these photos from the Newage Weibo page and you'll see: this Bumblebee is 6cm (about 2.3 inches) tall in robot mode, and only 2.7cm (around an inch) wide in vehicle mode! It's almost small enough to mistake for an actual bug. Keep reading to see the photos.
The number of choices in scoring that movie Optimus Prime that matches your aesthetic preferences has really been growing lately. Among the unofficial choices is Challenger from Unique Toys, representing Optimus Prime as he appeared in Age of Extinction and The Last Knight. The robot mode is noted to be around 11 inches tall, and it comes with a number of optional faces and weapons. The truck mode looks pretty good too, at least from the angles they've chosen to show it right now. You can check out the full assortment of photos below.
In an odd move, Badcube has posted on Facebook debuting color images of Steamroll and Recon, their try at making Masterpiece-styled Sideswipe and Red Alert. The two have some evident cosmetic differences from the official Masterpieces, and they're called out for extras like silicone tires, but whether that's enough at this point to prompt collectors to replace the genuine articles is questionable. I mean, they don't even transform in to cows. You can check out the photos below, showing such things as how they pair with official MPs like Sunstreaker and Inferno.
