Botcon 2016 Guest Updates, Script Reading Info, And The Future Of The Collector's Club
ExVee - Thursday, March 10, 2016

A new e-mail update has gone out today from Fun Publications. Of immediate note is the unfortunate news that Scott McNeil will no longer be able to attend the show this year. In his place will be G1 Grimlock voice Gregg Berger, who will be participating in this year's script reading. Also to perform at that event will be special guest Judd Nelson. The bad news is the script reading has been moved to Friday, so only preregistered attendees will have the chance to see it. The update also includes information about the future of the TFCC, and perhaps Botcon itself. Keep reading to learn more!

The e-mail, which we'll have quoted below, is careful to stress both the end of Botcon registration taking place on March 21st, and that March 16th is the final day to join the Collector's Club. As we previously reported on based on information from the Club Store, all club memberships will end on December 31st of this year. The e-mail thanks all members for supporting Fun Publications for the last 12 years, and wishes the brand well going forward. They also indicate Hasbro has new plans for the Collectors Club to announce at some point in the future. Given the tone of separation present in the e-mail, it's not a leap to presume that this also does mean Botcon 2016 will be the last official convention to be organized under Fun Publications.

The writing for this has been on the wall for some time, beginning with the already referenced termination dates on club memberships in the Club Store, and spreading from there. This marks the first true acknowledgement that the company's association with Hasbro is coming to an end. When asked at Toy Fair, Hasbro's representatives would not comment specifically about a convention in 2017, stating simply that they were exploring all their options. They also commented that they weren't ready to commit to a timeframe at that point, possibly suggesting that there may not be an official fan convention next year while Hasbro works on setting up arrangements for new oragnizers to handle the event. The full e-mail sent out today can be read below.

Hello Members!

We have some exciting news! On Friday afternoon, BotCon registered attendees will be treated to a script reading panel starring Judd Nelson, David Kaye, Venus Terzo, and Gregg Berger! To see this you must be a registered attendee, so make sure you have signed up for your Primus, Golden Ticket Primus, MiniCon or Protoform package. Also, for those who have already registered, if you have not yet added your Judd Nelson VIP Pass to your existing package you can do that today! Visit BotCon for the details and then if you need to register, add the VIP pass or do both, you can do that here.

As you can tell from the above paragraph, there has been a guest change. Unfortunately due to personal reasons, Scott McNeil had to cancel. However, Gregg Berger will now be coming! We will all miss Scott, but we are very excited about seeing our old friend Gregg in a few short weeks.

Registration will close on March 21st so there is not much time left to register. Currently there are only 30% of the Primus packages, 8% of the GT packages and 19% of the Iacon (non-attending) packages, left.

Please note that March 16 is the last day you can join the Transformers Collectors Club. If you are interested in receiving the discounts for BotCon, the 2016 FREE Membership Incentive figure and/or purchasing the TFSS 5.0 (to be revealed in full at BotCon 2016) you will need to be an active member as of March 16. All memberships will end December 31, 2016. Hasbro looks forward to sharing new plans for the Collector’s Club with you in the future.

We appreciate your support over the last 12 years and wish the brand well in their new endeavors.

Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing each and every one of our Club members at BotCon 2016!

The second voice actor that TFNation is proud to present for 2018 hails from the land of the early 2000s, and the series that some will argue is called Car Robots, when we all really know it as Robots in Disguise (2001) - please join us in welcoming the man behind Megatron, leader of the Predacons: Daniel Riordan!
Yet another Hasbro Fan media event is behind us at Toy Fair. From this we have lots of photos of current and upcoming toys to obsess over, as we do every year. But that's simply the obvious, most easily visible takeaway from the presentation. But we learn more than that, so it's time to look back over the day and sort out the larger scope of information we've been given from what is arguably our biggest single day of reveals for the whole year. Keep reading!
The smallest gallery to share is that for the standard Masterpiece line. The newest entrant shown is the MP-17+ Prowl featuring animation-inspired deco and which it seems is due to get a same-month release by Hasbro going by indications from some of the US retailers. Also out at the show were Shadow Panther, with a copy of Cheetor out as a point of comparison. And rounding out the upcoming product was Dinobot, making most things around it look small. It seems that several other items were included in the display, but in the form of exclusives and other long-since released products to represent the line. You can check out the photos of the newer products below.
Wonderfest managed to diverge a bit from Toy Fair's presentation this year in the movie product on hand. While the Studio Series line was on full display matching Hasbro's reveal, a few of this year's Movie The Best products were out in the exhibit space too - though it's probably not too unfair to say some of them were rightly outclassed by their brand new Studio counterparts. We also get to see a little bit of Move Masterpiece among these toys, resulting in the movie offerings for this year being nicely represented. Click through to check them out!
Wonderfest is happening in Japan right now. The one day event falls just hours after the first day of Toy fair in New York, and on the Transformers side, and consistent with our earlier speculation much the same lineup of products were on display, albeit with subtle differences. Unfortunately in Power of The Primes those differences are limited to the state of finish of the various items shown, rather than things like actual deco choices. For instance, grey prototypes of Optimal Optimus and Predaking versus color versions. Click through to see these and more!
