In the David Kaye-voiced promo video we reported on a short time ago, between the series of slides of character art for the Botcon 2016 box set exclusives and the date and location slide for Botcon, an interesting bit of art was briefly seen. This quick image depicted Megatron, but with features of the visible portion of the body matching original RID Megatron/Car Robots Gigatron. In a recent interview, Pete Sinclair revealed that the "centerpiece" of the souvenir assortment would be something everyone would want to get their hands on. So does this tell us why? See the image and more details below!
Late in the 3H days of Botcon before Fun Publications obtained the convention license, among the many, many unproduced concepts for Botcon exclusives was an alternate take on Transmetals 2 Megatron, using the Gigatron body with a newly sculpted head. When this was revealed to the fandom it sparked some amount of interest, and has repeatedly been brought up in the intervening years during discussions of convention and club exclusives. While in the past it had been said that this figure was not something that Fun Publications would be able to pursue production of, perhaps that has now changed? With the majority of this year's convention toys focused on celebrating the 20th anniversary of Beast Wars, it would be perhaps the most ideal time to dust this one off and try to get it produced. Not to mention that if the growing belief that this is Fun Publications' final year in operation with Transformers, this could be a high note to end on by delivering an unproduced piece that fans have been clamoring for to some degree or another for at least a decade.
