The Transformers Classics introduction in 2006 was probably the real beginning of what we know today as the ongoing Generations series. The idea of remaking Generation 1 characters in a modern style allowed Takara to design toys with more articulation and functionality that we had before. This allowed toys such as the Seekers and Optimus Prime to be improved greatly over their original Diaclone derived designs.
Today's Prime shot takes things up a few notches with the 2008 Fansproject TF Parallax upgrade kits. What began with turning the Classics Ultra Magnus into a proper City Commander ala Generation 1, also allowed for the parts to be transformed into a trailer that the Classics figures never officially had. These kits were instantly popular and re-released to meet demand. Fansproject expanded the concept with new colors to accommodate the Classics Optimus Prime and Nemesis Prime figures as well. Shown here left to right are the: TFX-01B Shadow Commander, TFX-01J Dia Commander (Diaclone Powered Convoy), and the original TFX-01 City Commander with TFX-03 add-on rifle and shoulder rockets.
