There is a long evolution behind the toys that would become Transformers. Ironically, what was Takara's response to the then-popular Mech (human-powered) robots was the Diaclone Car Robots series in 1982. Those molds would eventually be licensed, sans the Human drivers, and released in the Transformers 1984 Generation 1 cartoon series.
I am going to keep on trucking all this week with a look at various Optimus Prime truck modes. Today's Prime shot takes a look at the most classic Optimus Primes or all, the Generation 1 Optimus Prime and Trailer that descended from the Diaclone Battle Convoy (left), is followed by the Jafcon 15th Anniversary Black Convoy, the 1985 Pepsi Optimus Prime mail-away exclusive, and finally the 2008 Third Party Optimus Prime Clear "Crystal" (right).
