Fans of have known for a long time that LEGO and Hasbro were rivals, so it was a BIG surprise to see the 10302 Optimus Prime come to be. LEGO fan site Brink Fanatics has posted an interview with LEGO designer Joseph Patrick Kyde who shares the details on how the partnership began. He talks about how Hasbro approached LEGO to make a G1 Optimus Prime and some of the challenges they faced in making the 10302 Optimus Prime we see now.
“I used to work as a designer on Transformers at Hasbro, so it was a very good match for me and kind of a perfect fit. I think that’s why I was approached. And yeah, just seeing those names [LEGO and Hasbro] on the side of a box, it’s a milestone.”
