With the popularity of Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers declining, Takara began to develop their own lines for the Transformers Universe with a whole new series in 1990 called "Zone". Convoy (Optimus Prime) stepped aside to make way for his counterpart, Star Saber. However, Takara didn't stick with the series for long and in 1991 went back to the Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers foundation with the aptly named, "Return of Convoy", that introduced Star Convoy.
Today's Prime shot is all about the C-327 Star Convoy figure that has been coveted for the rare Cybertronian design, yet somewhat loathed for its extremely awkward robot and alternate modes. The term "brick" is heavily applied here as the back end of the trailer is just that with treads on it. The real saving grace is the decent base mode that is made to interact with the Micro Masters scale and is most desirable as part of the massive Assault Platform trio combined with C-360 Sky Garry and C-371 Grandus sets that we will look at closer in a future post. For now, have a look at the 1991 C-327 Star Convoy (left), 2019 Generations Selects Star Convoy (center top), 2002 SCF ACT 8 Star Convoy PVC (center bottom), and the 2005 C-327 Star Convoy re-issue (right).
9 hours ago, BaCon said:Funny enough, Takara could not give the reissues away. Even on clearance, no one wanted them. You can probably still find one for much less than the original.
Not to be rude or anything but can you give me any credible references based on that?
I'm lucky enough to own Selects Star Convoy, but man do I wish I had the original in hand!
