We recently brought you word that TakaraTomy had issued a voluntary recall for the just-released Encore God Fire Convoy reissue, citing errors on the packaging and in the programming of the electronics. Today, Hobbylink Japan has sent word out to customers that purchased the set from them, detailing the options that they will be making available to address the current situation. In the process, they've also verified that as far as they know, no replacement items are expected from TakaraTomy, though it's unlikely anyone thought a revised production run would have been coming. Keep reading to find out what HLJ is doing for its customers.
HLJ shared a notice on their help website, though it can only be viewed by customers who are signed in on their help desk, and seemingly only if they've actually purchased the set. Thanks to LoC Soundwave we have an image of the e-mail sent directly to customers, a copy of which you can see below. In short, HLJ is offering customers not satisfied with their purchase either a return for a full refund, including the cost of the return postage, or allowing customers to keep the set and opt for a 25% discount to be issued in the form of a refund. In either event, customers wishing to pursue these options need to contact HLJ customer support before April 27th. As of the time the e-mail was sent, HLJ had already ceased accepting further orders for God Fire Convoy.
It's little surprise HLJ is participating in the recall effort for the set, being located in Japan and having easy access to return the inventory to TakaraTomy. Retailers in other parts of the world may not find it quite so practical, and only time will tell how - or if - other shops choose to proceed.
