With word of Walmarts clearancing out the trailer-less reissue of Optimus Prime starting this past week, it can only mean that it's getting to be about time for the next wave of exclusive reissues to start hitting. And wouldn't you know, we've just today got word of the first sighting of Soundwave with Buzzsaw. This was found at a Walmart in Calgary, Alberta by DesertDog, at a Canadian Dollars price of $69.97. That's the same price point that Optimus Prime debuted at, so we can expect to see this reissue in US stores for the same roughly $50.
In this writer's opinion, at least, the price point seems more appropriate applied to Soundwave. In 2006, Toys R Us carried another reissue, which included Laserbeak and Ravage instead of Buzzsaw, and that sold for about $40 and felt like quite a bargain at the time. Plus, the 2006 Soundwave was in fact a Soundwave-colored Soundblaster, having the extended chest door to hold two cassettes at once. This year's Walmart Soundwave features the restored single-capacity door, making it a more accurate reissue. All in all, a $10 price bump and one less cassette doesn't seem so bad 13 years later, does it?
Wow so Soundwave doesn't have one of those neat new rubsigns?
With the trailer-less reissue of Optimus Prime going on clearance, we knew it was only a short time to wait before a new wave of G1 reissues were due to hit Walmart. And tonight seems to signal the start of that! Two reports are in revealing that Walmart stores are beginning to receive and stock Soundwave, as well as the two packs of Rumble (the red one) and Ravage, and Frenzy (the blue one) and Laserbeak.
