TakaraTomy Mall has opened up the first preorders for the third set of Generations Selects Seacons, completing the team with Overbite and Tentakil. This wave of figures is due to ship in late March for the customary price of ¥3,800 each (plus 10% sales tax for a total of ¥4,180 each) or as a pair for ¥7,600 (¥8,360 with tax). The order period begins immediately, and concludes on October 31.
Overbite is very plainly a use of Rippersnapper that didn't stray very far from its starting point, but Tentakil is a little more interesting. Rather than being based on a Terrorcon, Tentakil distinctly shows an origin with the Power of The Primes Moonracer design. But, to call Tentakil a remold of Moonracer would be nearly as inaccurate as calling Siege Chromia such a thing. Fundamental engineering remains the same, so effectively the squid mode is the equivalent of a car stood on its back end. But the stock photos make clear that a substantial amount of the parts in use are completely new. The backpack unit housing the combiner plug may well be a straight reuse, even if only because it seems the squid's legs are attached to the mushroom pegs Moonracer's wheels were originally affixed to. It's a remarkable testament to the level of wizardry Transformers manufacturing has risen to that such a tremendous cosmetic change can be made while still utilizing so much of the existing engineering model.
We're expecting Hasbro Pulse to have preorders up shortly, which as usual should run about the same duration as TakaraTomy Mall. Now let's all look forward to those first full color photos of the assembled King Poseidon!
