While we are waiting for the official debut of the Hot Wheels X Transformers to roll out, it may surprise some Transformers fans that Mattel has been here before, without Hasbro.
Back in 2007 Hot Wheels introduced their line of transforming cars called the "Modifighters". There is no ambiguity here over these being cars that transform into robots. Which, are not going to impress many Transformers fans. The basic designs have been extended to incorporate an "icy cold water" gimmick that changes the cars' colors.
This wasn't a one-off line either, as they had three different styles in the Modifighters series with the addition of Trucks and Quick Changers sublines. Obviously, these didn't stay on the road long and have since been long forgotten. Read on to see the official product information and details, thanks to ToyNewsi.com
The Hot Wheels® Modifighters™ assortment features cool, licensed vehicles that modify from cars to fighting robots, then fire icy cold water to reveal battle damage color change. The assortment includes six robots with rapper- and skater-themed personalities.

I was interested until I saw the $80 price tag. There is no legitimate reason for it to be so expensive. Pure price gouging!
Wow another G1 optimus prime nobody wants and with an $80 price tag to boot.
That Optimus, is a literal dream come true... but that price tag is most certainly not.
Never thought I would ever say this, but the Bumblebee actually looks pretty good. As a Transformer and Hot wheel fan, this is actually pretty exciting... but then again, it doesn't transform.
