TakaraTomy posted a new video to their official Youtube channel featuring a quick sit down with Kenta Wakizawa from the project development team to talk about some of the features of MP-46 Masterpiece Blackarachnia. The video is region locked exclusively to Japan, so most people won't be able to view it directly. But we were able to take a selection of full resolution screenshots to show you some of the interesting parts.
Very basic stop motion sequences let us get an idea of the transformation process, though there's little of the expected engineering magic to be seen here for this to truly shed light on. The original Beast Wars Blackarachnia toy makes an appearance, and while not placed immediately side by side with MP-46, it's close enough to get a sense of the comparative sizes of the two robots - and they don't seem especially far apart in height. Possibly more interesting would be getting to see the Legends Series LG-17 Blackarachnia, a retool of Animated Blackarachnia, next to the Masterpiece. LG-17 was of course a much taller figure than the old Beast Wars toy and may in fact be very close in height to Masterpiece Blackarachnia.
The main purpose of the video seems to be for Wakizawa to explain and demonstrate the poseability of the robot, for which it seems like special attention was paid to make sure it would be able to move and pose in a way that matched the character's movements in the cartoon. Some of the closeups in this process also serve to show that they're definitely using a hand-painted early copy, which is already visibly damaged just from the course of producing this video and it's short display run at Shizuoka last week.
Finally we get some screentime on the spider mode, which reinforces that just about every angle for it is a bad angle, sadly. We wish we could envision a way that the beast mode would have been realized better, but truthfully, you just can't change the laws of physics. A link to the video can be found below, for our readers that are able to access Japan geo-restricted videos.
