May Mayhem Returns? Distributor Listing For Blast Off - And Repugnus!

Blast Off has been leaked a couple of times, enough to be reasonably sure that it was something to actually exist in the upcoming product line. We have a bit more confirmation of that now through a listing on ACD Distribution. This doesn't give any new information, but it's joined by a second listing that is much more interesting for its implications. Listed additionally as a Generations Special Edition Deluxe is a Repugnus! Repugnus had been conspicuous as the only Monsterbot character that didn't end up making it to the Deluxe scale, but it seems that will finally be achieved, bringing the whole team together. Keep reading for some good old speculation!

With two "special edition" Deluxes, it feels more likely that this will be the third year of May Mayhem or an equivalent. And as one would be a combiner toy, and the other presumably a Headmaster like Doublecross/Twinferno and Grotusque, this round would be able to act like a sampler plate of what the Prime Wars Trilogy of toylines has brought to the table since the beginning of 2015 - especially if the conjecture of one or both of these also including a special version of a Prime Master proves to be correct. If this is the case, there's a good chance we could find out more about it during Toy Fair next month - although Hasbro has played these cards close to the chest in the past fairly close to their intended release dates.

Which leaves the question of what Repugnus will be. But I don't think there's far to go here. Depending how much retooling is possible - and we should remember both that the flexibility of this has grown considerably in recent years as well as that there's often a good bit of planning ahead in developing Transformers - this will probably be a third iteration of the Twinferno and Grotusque base engineering. More likely to start with Grotusque since the limb arrangement isn't as specialized. Replacing the existing wings, monster mode head and feet, and probably the claws on the arms, though it could get by without that if it had to. But what's important is that to do what it needs to do, the engineering wouldn't need to change in any meaningful way. Looking at it from this perspective, one could start to believe that this mold family had been designed from the outset to be all three Monsterbots, given enough time and opportunity to get them released. And that probably means the Titan Master for Deluxe Repugnus will follow suit with Twinferno and Grotusque and be based on a Battle Beast, or Beastformer as they appeared in The Headmasters. Twinferno had one based on White Leo, and Grotusque's Fengul was modeled on Platinum Tiger. If we keep with the cat Beastformer pattern, Repugnus could have a Titan Master resembling Powerjaguar, the Battle Beast Jaded Jaguar who was yellow with red armor - colors that would just so happen to be suitable for Repugnus!

It might be a while before we have anything solid to go on for Deluxe Repugnus. Though we can imagine that now that leakers may know it's in the pipeline they might start seeking it out, so who knows what the near future will hold in that case. Of course it would be my personal hope that this is something on the books for a reveal at Toy Fair and Hasbro will get the chance to do a proper reveal of it before anyone else gets there. Stay tuned for more developments!

Oh, and one last note: Don't read anything in to the prices listed on the distributor site. They're obviously incorrect showing a retail of $9.99 each. If these do have special redeco Prime Masters, $19.99 is a more realistic expectation of price.
