Is it fair to say we would not know of Michael Bay were it not for his proclivity to blow things up? It has become his signature to show over-the-top destruction and mayhem in his films. The director recently discussed his "Secret Sauce" for explosions reported by Cinemablend to be like making a salad:

Fans of the Transformers probably know this better than most with five movies directed by Micheal Bay that were soaked in exploding buildings, cars, trucks, planes, buses, and even GIANT robots! This old TV advert for Verizon Fios clearly underscores how bombastic (pun) Bay really is.
