I'm personally a bit enamored of the latest addition to the Diaclone Reboot line, the Waruder Suits. We talked recently about the arrival of enemy forces to the line consisting of two variations of a single battle pod design that could combine in numerous ways. A recently released video reveals a third unit as a prototype that will expand that capacity even further, allowing creation of bigger, more complex, and of course, more expensive creations. We have the video embedded below, as well as an album of screencaps to check out. For that and more information, go ahead and click through to the full article!
We frontloaded the gallery with the caps of the newly revealed prototype, but the video did spend most of its first two minutes recapping what the Stanger and Flinger Suits could do given adequate numbers, showing combinations using up to 9 individual units - the largest of which was posed overpowering even Diabattles. Bear in mind that at a retail price of ¥3500 or so, some of these combinations carry a total pricetag greater than the most expensive retail Masterpiece Transformers. But it's a compelling sales pitch with the promise of being able to build increasingly bizarre, alien contraptions the more toys you have to pile together.
The new addition in its basic form is labelled as Larval Unit, and its construction is referred to as a Ring Mount system. On its own it can be something vaguely crustacean-like, or build with larger limbs for something more alien. But the real purpose is to expand how the first two Waruder Suits types can interact. Besides simple intercombination with Flinger and Stanger, special adapter pieces are also involved to let the Suits combine in new ways as well, further expanding the capabilities.
This is a ruinously expensive new development for a line already renowned for its high prices - but largely amazing overall quality, as they seem focused this year on introducing a fantastically fun and flexible way to expand the play pattern of the line. Can you keep up the resistance against Diaclone Reboot and its ongoing quest to bankrupt every fighting robot fan they can reach?
I'm not sure I can.
