Only Soundwave Could Go To China - New Collaboration With Xiaomi Creates Mi Pad 2 Soundwave For Chinese Market

In a throwback to G1 and the Microchange toys that preceded it, Xiaomi vice president Hugo Barra has announced a new collaboration with Hasbro that sees Soundwave becoming a tablet! Namely, the Mi Pad 2, a tablet popular enough in China to supplant Apple's iPad. The new Soundwave features a 30-step conversion from its painstakingly authentic 7mm thick (nonfunctional) Tablet Mode. The price is set at approximately $20 USD. Xiaomi and Hasbro are collaborating for the first time crowdfunding a kickass robot model named Soundwave in China. Instead of a vehicle transforming into a robot, this time, it's Mi Pad 2 that gets the Transformers treatment. How cool is that? 😎

R&D worked really hard to ensure that the color, details and feel are exactly the same as Mi Pad 2. They were challenged at turning such a slim 7mm tablet into a 3D robot, but they managed to do so with a 30-step folding assembly.
