A return to form in this most recent issue of the increasingly inaccurately named All Hail Megatron series.
Issue 14 serves up a double helping of G1 fun in the form of the stories Replay and Rebirth, featuring Sunstreaker and Galvatron respectively. It’s an IDW “Characters who have been “dead” for a while.” two-pack.
Replay is a series of flashbacks of Sunstreaker’s, Ranging from his pre-earth assignment (apparently in Osgiliath) to his ultimate fate at the hands of the swarm and all the dismembered torture in between.
If you were hoping for a greater exploration of Sunstreaker’s treason, don’t get your hopes up. This is an exploration of how much it sucks to have your head torn off and used as a server.
Parents, be warned it’s a little on the graphic side.
On the B side of this album we have Rebirth. Why do Primes always think tossing Galvatron into plasma is going to kill him? IDW’s non-Megatron, Galvatron is back with a belly full of spooky energy in this story.
But the ‘con king of crazy isn’t the only re-appearance here, Cyclonus and Scourge are back where they belong, in lock step with Galvatron. Its so refreshing to see these non-unicorn spawned versions of the Galvy entourage back together, minus the rest of the dark universe crowd, its hard to tell whether the appropriate sound track would be the Decepticon Theme from the ’86 movie, or The Boys are Back in Town.
A good solid issue, great writing and art through out. The only down side is, that like the rest of this part of the series, it’s just a collection of back stories. It’s not going to mean much to anyone who hasn’t read what came before, or who doesn’t plan to read what is to come.
