Dead End - Beast Wars Neo - Figure

Dead End
One of Magmatron’s doers-of-evil in the fight against Big Convoy’s Cybertrons, Dead End has one of the more original beast modes to date. He also has one of the more frustrating transformations to date as well.

Allegiance: Destron Function: Demolitions

“Dead End is a model soldier who loves battle. Being cool and solitary of temperament, he doesn't care for joint operations. His cruelty is such that he can bring his enemy to a halt with the Spiral Bomb attack, which launches the shell off his right shoulder, then smile as he delivers the final blow with his Dead Gun.”

Beast Mode
Dead End is an ammonite. What’s that? Well, according to Dictionary.com it’s, “The coiled, flat, chambered fossil shell of an extinct cephalopod mollusk that was abundant in the Cretaceous Period.” Except that Dead End still has the mollusk inside. The shell is mostly a pearl color with splashed of a light pink throughout. Through two cracks on either side, you can see some of the robot bits. The front tentacles are a glossy purple, which offset the green eyes nicely.

Transformation
“Tricky, but doable,” as Rattrap would say. Pressing the button on the top of the shell launches the right side of the shell. From there it’s a twisted mess of robot limbs strewn about. Luckily, Takara sought fit to make the other shell-half removable to make transformation a little easier. After you’ve twisted, pulled, and turned the arms and legs about and flip the robot head and chest plate into the correct positions, you’re ready to rumble. Just be sure to memorize in detail how the limbs were placed when you opened the shell or you’ll never get him back into beast mode.

Robot Mode
Now mostly purple in robot mode, there is little evidence of the creature he once was if you don’t have the shell halves on his shoulders. The ammonite head forms the chest. His head is a but pineapple shaped and his face looks as though he’s rolling his tongue into a circle in the center of his mouth. As typical with the Beast Wars era toys, Dead End features remarkable articulation. He has ball-socket hips, knees, ankles, shoulders and elbows and can turn his head. The outer tentacles form his hand-held weapon and he can also fire the right shell half.

Overall
Dead End is a darn nifty toy. He can be extremely frustrating to get back into beast mode if you don’t pay much attention to his layout before transformation. However, after doing it a few times, it shouldn’t be too hard.
