Scavenger is probably one of the few reuses of an original Transformers name that I don't mind and I'll tell you why. The Beast Machines version looks to be an updated version of the Constructicon from "back in the day."
The similarities are amazing. Both have a scoop shovel-like crane. The area where the Spark Crystal is housed on Scavenger 2000 looks almost like the cockpit on the original and is, in fact, located in the same area in vehicle mode.
Vehicle Mode
But, back to Beast Machines Scavenger; he is about five inches long in vehicle mode and 2 1/2 inches tall. His crane is movable at the mid-section and at the base, giving him a wide range of posability. By pulling on a tab at the base of the upper section, his "mouth" opens and closes. There are also some neat weapons sitting on either side of the "mouth," a Gatling gun on the left side and three missiles on the right.
Transformation
Transformation is easy, as per most of the basic sized Transformers toys. Simply collapse the crans neck into the vehicle, bring the rear wheels up and rotate the arms around. Then you move the front section downward and separate to form the legs and pop up the robot head from the crane "mouth."
Robot Mode
Scavenger stands at about 4 1/2 inches in height. He has three chromed fingers on each hand that can open and close to grasp heroic Maximals careless enough to get caught by him. The weapons described above are now on either side of his chest and give a formidable appearance, despite the nasty green and day-glow orange coloration given to him. His head is rather small and actually looks as though it's designed to be a head from the nose up as there isn't a mouth outside of the one formed by the crane.
Overall
Scavenger is an excellent toy. He's well constructed and fun to play with. How many kids would possibly turn down a rolling death machine for a toy? I know I wouldn't.
