Mega-Octane - RiD - Figure

Found all four Build Team members and Mega-Octane at Wal-Mart this week. Along with getting a new, better-paying job, I'm very happy right now.

Vehicle Mode
Mega-Octane is a ten-wheeled missile trailer measuring 23 cm(9") long. Mostly army green, with an orange and silver double-barrelled missile launcher, black windows, camouflage patterns, and a big purple Decepticon symbol painted on the roof of the cab. Not as brightly coloured as his CR cousin Dolrailer, but more so than his great, great grandpappy G1 Onslaught. The launcher can elevate to a height of 12 cm(4.7") and has a hole for attaching Mega-Octane's sonic stun gun to it. In addition, the trailer has space for carrying a smaller Commando vehicle. And like many G1 vehicles, it holds together like a rock.

Battle Station Mode
Perhaps the neatest feature about the Scramble City leaders was the presence of a third mode, and Mega-Octane is no exception. The cab splits apart and folds back, the rear part of the trailer splits and spreads apart, the missile launcher attaches to the robot head, and a ramp piece snaps on to where the rear section of the trailer was. You now have a small but deadly-looking battle station from which the Commandos can be deployed to attack. Commando warrior Armorhide can even drive up and down the ramp.

Transformation
Although it says Advanced on his packaging, Mega-Octane's transformation is no sweat. The halves of the cab become his arms while the rear section of the trailer folds up and splits to become his legs. Attach his green chestplate, and Mega-Octane is ready to fight!

Robot Mode
In robot mode, Mega-Octane stands 16 cm(6.3") tall at the head, with the launcher on his back adding a few more centimetres to that height. Lacking stickers, he's easily the blandest version of this particular toy. He's green and orange with a grey torso and a black head with red visor. Like the majority of G1 moulds, his articulation is sparing at best. His head turns, his shoulders move, and his legs can spread out to the sides to do the splits. Ow.

On the plus side, he's kibble-free, unless you count the launcher on his back. Interestingly, his sonic stun gun has been remoulded with a shorter barrel. As well, his ramp piece has a post on the bottom so that it can be held in his fist as a shield.

Mega-Octane is packaged with the head, chestplate, fists, and feet of Ruination.

Overall, Suspsy Sez
Having foolishly sold my Onslaught toy long ago, it's nice to have this new improved version. I especially like how the sonic stun gun can attach to the missile launcher, and how the ramp becomes a shield in robot mode. He may be a fifteen year-old toy, but Mega-Octane is still a fun one. Albeit with a lousy name.

Suspsy, who will amend this review to the Ruination one as soon as the other four Commandos arrive.
