Offshoot - Energon

Wave 4 basics just started getting sighted this week, meaning I was NOT expecting to see them in VA for another month at the very least. But much to my suprise, I actually found Offshoot right in front of me at Target while going on an unsucessful search for Bulkhead and Silverstreak. But is a more subdued repaint of Signal Flare worth YOUR cash? Read on.....

Vehicle Mode: Offshoot is a dark military green radar truck, similar to the type seen in Godzilla. The colors serve Offshoot well as he looks much more realistic than Signal Flare could ever hope to be with his bright shades. Also of note is the fact that Offshoot's energon bits are a darker shade of red compared to Signal Flare's pinkish energon. 7.5/10

Robot Mode: Even moreso than the vehicle mode, Offshoot is a vast improvement over Signal Flare as he appears to have additional paint apps (particularly on the chest and lower legs) and also dispenses with the gaudy lightening effect on Signal Flare's arm. The result is a much sharper robot mode than Signal Flare's.

Since its a repaint, all of the poseablity of the orginal (legs, knees, ball jointed arm, etc. ) are retained 8/10

Overall: A very good repaint, one that surpasses the orginal in every way. If you don't own Signal Flare, don't even bother, Offshoot is far more worth the cash. However, if you do own Signal Flare, then buying Offshoot isn't too high a priority as at the end of the day, its the same figure but just dressed up better. 8/10
