Sonic Bomber - Galaxy Force - Figure

Well I got this guy recently cause I wasn't sure if Cybertron Wing Saber was going to come with chrome parts.

Vehicle mode:

Vehicle mode is a stylized A-10 Thunderbolt II. I love this mode. Like Team Vanguard, he's armed to the teeth. Each wing has a launcher, a 4 missile pylon, a missile pod, and a 6 barrel gatling under the fuel pod. In addition to 2 nose mounted guns, his ailerons can be removed and double as swords. Also, an LED laser cannon gimmick is activated by the Cyber Key. Hot damn.

Robot mode:

Robot mode is decent. He's more articulated than Energon Wing Saber and he does a good job of looking like a toy all his own. Rather than an add-on. If you like the idea of gun fingers there's a slide you can pull back so that 2 of his barrels recede to resemble a 5 fingered hand. He has large flat feet making him very stable. No ball joints on the hips or knees so he's got no trouble standing up. Powerlinx points are tastefully applied to this mold and don't stand out. His head sculpt evokes a football helmet. You might be dismayed that the piece that goes between his eyes and nose isn't flush. Well at least on mine. So it detracts from the look a little.

Armor mode:

I have to admit. I'm not as big a fan of this mode because they did such an outstanding job on Galaxy Convoy. I'm not a fan of the Ligerjack arm either so there's my bias. 'Samurai' Convoy with his chrome swords is a unique look from what we usually associate with a Prime super mode. The colors work really well. The chromed Autobot logo as the centerpiece is very striking. When you tilt all the weaponry forward, Sonic Convoy definitely looks serious.

Complaints:

My only major gripe is, in plane mode, the bottoms of his feet won't connect flush with the supports on his tail section. Again, this might be specific to my toy. I also noticed this area is slightly different from the box pics and instructions.

The removable missile launchers that are supposed to go on Convoy's feet aren't hinged. It's one solid piece of plastic. I mistakenly got the impression it was. A nice touch would have been to have a female connector on them so they can be used as shoulder cannons when connected to the powerlinx points on the side of the cockpit. This would give the bot mode over the shoulder cannons.

Colorwise, being a combiner armor homage he evokes his original namesake. Though with a lot less black. I would have liked the missiles in the missile pod painted yellow but that can be easily fixed. The red/white/black/yellow is nice but if they decide to recolor him in a military scheme that'd be great.

Summary:

Overall he's a better than average combiner armor toy. I'd recommend him if you own Galaxy Convoy or the Team Vanguard members. You can view him in all his glory over at Invincible Robot Laboratory: Sonic Bomber Sonic Convoy
