This is my first review for Tformers, and due to not owning the proper equiptment, there won't be any pictures.
Soundwave is a character I never had the chance to get since I was born long after G1 ended. However Hasbro has recently given us a chance to get him again in the form of a Toys'R'Us exclusive along with Ravage and Laserbeak.
Cassette Player/Cassettes
Soundwave comes packaged in this mode, and I have to say, he looks very realistic.
Reissue Soundwave is different from the original in that he, like Soundblaster, holds to cassettes. I mention this because it cassette door now sticks out in order to hold the extra cassette and some might not like the look of it.
Soundwave has molded buttons below his cassette door, as well as the infamous eject button on the top of the body. I really like this mode because to has everything a real cassette player should have a volume control, power switch, batteries/cover, a belt clip, and the buttons mentioned above.
Ravage and Laserbeak have the same alt. mode, a micro cassette. The modes are great and look convincing for transforming tapes. Laserbeak has a sticker that represents the tape on the center os him, Ravage on the other hand has a picture of a robot (left over from Soundblaster). Ravage also has a bit of Robot kibble as his head is clearly visible. Overall great modes thought.
Robot modes
Soundwave's robot mode is also great. I won't go into the transformation as I'm sure most of you already know it.
He stands about 6-7 inches tall and has 5 points of articulation (9 counting his backwards bending feet) which is good for a G1 bot. The eject button works in this mode too and his batteries become his weapons. One problem I have is that the weapons don't fire which is a shame (although I don't know if the original did). His head is probably the only not show accurate thing about him. In the show, he had red eyes and a few other changes, the toy however has yellow eyes and looks like the Decepticon symbol. He features a Rub Sign on his left (your right) arm.
Ravage (some kind of cat) and Laserbeak (Bird)Robot modes also look like there TV incarnatoins. Laserbeak looks great pertched on Soundwaves arm as if preparing for flight. Ravage is also great, but has some ballance issues due to the way his feet are made but if you can get him stable he quickly becomes a favorite.
Overall Soundwave and co. are great, I only wish he came with Rumble/Frenzy so I could of had a cassette that formed a robot. I rate him a 10 of 10.
