SDCC 2019 - Hasbro Booth Photos Reveals Siege RUNG, Ratbat, Micromaster Battle Squad, Astrotrain Base And More

UPDATE: Stryker Wang is back with photo updates from the Hasbro SDCC booth set up. It turns out we're getting our very first ever toy of Rung, something comic fans have been asking for since way early in the run of IDW's More Than Meets The Eye! Though it might be a slight monkey's paw situation, as Rung's debut toy is a Battle Master. But we're hardly complaining, as the sculpt looks fantastic, and the weapon mode is a pretty good match for James Raiz's interpretation of Rung's mysteriously useless alternate form as seen in MTMTE #22. More photos were also provided for the already seen toys, including clearer looks at Ratbat and Rumble, Apeface, and Crosshairs.

Original article text follows...

Stryker Wang on Twitter has posted a few photos from the early set up of the Hasbro booth at SDCC, and it's already giving us some interesting new first looks! Micromasters are getting to the Combiner Squad characters, with Battle Squad members Direct Hit and Power Punch visible. Way in the background we have a look at another set of cassettes for Soundwave or Soundblaster, with Rumble and Ratbat just barely in the line of sight. Also seen for the first time is the Micromaster value 10-pack, featuring redecos of the existing 2019 Micromaster molds.

Moving to the bigger toys, Spinister, Crosshairs (barely) and Apeface can all be seen. Spinister is the only one we can get a really good look at, as Apeface is oriented for the opposite side of the display case, and Crosshairs is mostly blocked by Astrotrain. Another seemingly Micromaster-size toy is also behind Astrotrain, but it's hard to make out any identifiable details to figure out what it might be.

Astrotrain, finally, reveals the "extras" that fill out its Leader class price point. As shown in the display, Astrotrain has an extra container (a coal car for the locomotive, probably?) that serves as a container for extra weapons, and unfolds to become a launch platform for the shuttle mode.

We'll be seeing more of these very soon when we're bringing you coverage live from San Diego this week. And just think, if all these things are in the display case already, what more must they have to show us during the presentations on Thursday?

The Micromaster value pack looks like it does some things right but, it really is a wasted opportunity. It's great that we're getting Airwave (even if it's under a different name), but this could have been a great opportunity to give us figures like Ironworks, Skystalker and Groundshaker. It's unfortunate that a little more thought wasn't given to this set, as it could really have made some of those recolours something special.

WOW! The Astrotrain looks great.

I'm sorry, I can't hear anything about Astrotrain over the voices in my head screaming about finally having a probably decent Generations Ratbat. oh yeah and I guess maybe that Rung thing, too.
