MasterPiece MasterPiece

This month's issue of Previews carries a somewhat surprising inclusion, as shown in an image of one of the catalog pages posted by blue death. The Hasbro release of MP-17+ Prowl, which we had previously learned would be offered for sale through some online retailers in the US is now also going to be available from Diamond, through Previews, for comic shops and other specialty retailers to have the opportunity to order as well. The Animation Colors Prowl looks like it's going to be a strong push towards increasing the market reach of Masterpiece toys in at least the US market - a good idea, with the demise of Toys R Us now at hand.

With the rumors of a new MP Optimus Prime that have begun to circulate, we can't help but wonder if the MP-10G Gold Optimus Prime that just popped up on Taobao will be the final release of that oft-recolored, oft knocked-off mold. There's a few good reasons that this could be true, and RAC's going to go over them in this post. Read on!

A recent listing on Taobao offers a possible tip-off of a MP10G Optimus Prime Golden Lagoon Edition coming from Takara Tomy. The listing indicates the MP10G will be out in July for a price of 12,800 JPY ~ 120 USD. No images yet, read on to see the translated details for more info till we know more. Keep in mind, this is not confirmed till we get the official word.

From our forums, we've got another video by chuckdawg1999, this time taking a look at the newly released MP-40 Targetmaster Hot Rod. The video serves as a good comparison between this Hot Rod and the original release, really highlighting the significance of the new deco. Plus of course we have a look at the Targetmaster figure itself, originally seen on the US release of Masterpiece Rodimus Prime. You can find the video embedded below; click through to watch now!

Though we don't think anyone could be blamed for confusing this with cab-robot Ultra Magnus, MP-711 Convoy, the Masterpiece Optimus Prime redecoed and sold exclusively by 7 Eleven in Japan is currently being shipped out. Via pcwr_Etchy and Alfes2010 on Twitter, we have some in hand images of the newest member of the MP-10 redeco family. This release doesn't feature any new accessories or mold changes that we know of, but does have a new deco for just about everything, including the Matrix which now looks positively watermelon. You can check out the gallery below to have a look at this figure and see the details of its new deco.

Thanks to Alfes2010, we've got a selection of nice photos of the just-released in Japan Targetmaster Hot Rod Masterpiece figure. The photos shared via Twitter show off MP-40 in a standard overview of the robot and vehicle modes, including weapons attachment options like the new Targetmaster connection on the hood of the car. We also have some side by side shots with the original MP-28 Hot Rod, which serves to demonstrate very effectively the deco changes between releases. We've mirrored a number of these photos, which you can find below!

From a Japanese hobby magazine via Singapore fan group Planet Iacon, we have an image that seems to show chest and shoulder design art for a new G1-styled Optimus Prime figure. Is this a new Masterpiece version 3.0? Or something else entirely? It'll be a good while before we know, but meanwhile, keep reading to see the image!

Site sponsor Robotkingdom has posted images of the packaging for MP-40 Targetmaster Hot Rodimus, due to ship on the 24th from them! As is custom, Hasbro Asia has released a special collector coin with unique sleeve as part of the packaging. Click through to see both the sleeve and the packing for MP-40 itself!

Last night we found out about the new anime colors variant of Masterpiece Prowl, MP-17+, which would release as a TakaraTomy Mall exclusive. But surprisingly today, it looks like that will also be available for purchase in the US. US retailers, such as sponsor BigBadToyStore now have preorder listings for MP-17+, marked as a Hasbro product, and due in September. The timing - and similar pricing - sure makes this sound like an effort at a simultaneous (or as near as we can get) Masterpiece release by both Hasbro and TakaraTomy, which could have some interesting potential if it becomes a regular occurrence! Click through for a product link.

The ToysRUs Australia Facebook page has announced that now through February 25th, Australian collectors can order MP-34S Shadow Panther via the retailer website. The figure is a black recolor of MP Cheetor - based on a black recolor of 1996 Deluxe Cheetor - and is expected to ship in October and costs $109.93 AUD, or about USD $86. Keep reading for the link, and for photos!

From Kevin Liu, we have both a set of very nice quality photos of Movie Masterpiece Barricade, now beginning to become available in Asia. The photos offer a nice overview of the toy in both modes, and helpfully give a side by side with Human Alliance Barricade, a comparison sure to be of interest to collectors wondering if it's worth upgrading. Kevin has also posted a video of the figure on Youtube so you can check it out in action. You can find that embedded below, along with mirrored photos.

In pursuit of the ultimate experience of punishment and enslavement, the fifth Movie Masterpiece figure, Barricade is inching towards general retail release. Via a user on Weibo we have a few in hand images from what may be either an early sample that got out or the initial signs of stores receiving the Decepticon police car. Time will tell on that score, we suppose. Right now we get to see some looks at the robot mode in different poses, and a good shot at the vehicle form. We've mirrored the photos for those who might not be Weibo-enabled - click through to take a look!

Usual Weibo leak source TF-Factory has posted a few new things this morning, first up of which is package art for MPM-6 Ironhide! The Movie Masterpiece figure boasts of such features on his package back as "diecast parts," "movable faceplate," "articulated hands," and even "Posable Neck"! A truly exciting development in Transformers tech. Keep reading to see the images!

Takara Tomy Mall have posted their retail listing for the Transformers Masterpiece MP-34S Shadow Panther figure that was recently announced. The listing provides all the details on the figure along with high resolution images, pricing, release date, and other details that we have mirrored for you below. Read on to see the translated text and images.

Site sponsor Robotkingdom has put up their preorder of Movie Masterpiece Ironhide, complete with new photos! On top of which, we now have a release date of July 1st for the impressive figure. Keep reading for the images, mirrored here for convenience!
