Just in from Hollywood Reporter is news that Robert Kirkman’s Skybound imprint is in Talks to acquire comic licenses for the G.I. Joe and Transformers.
Kirkman, who is known to be a major fan of the toy brands and is said to have personally gotten involved in the chasing of the rights, is not expected to write any of the new comics. Additionally, if a deal does go through, new books would not be expected to hit shelves until 2023.
This would be quite a shift away from IDW publishing the Transformers. But all things considered, Skybound has Chris Ryall who was previously with IDW, and a more cinematic focus with titles like The Walking Dead under their roof. This could be what the Transformers comics and beyond needs?
