Super 35mm RED Helium 8K Sensor Camera Joins Transformers: The Last Night in Detroit

While his story telling needs some work, Michael Bay does not mess around when it comes to visuals and as we have seen in past films, Transformers: The Last Knight will be show casing the latest camera technology with the new RED 8K camera.

The director is not only getting one of the first ones of these units, he's getting a custom version that's made to be ultra compact. Get a look at the images of Michael Bay, Matthew Tremblay, Jarred Land and the new Super 35mm RED Helium 8K Sensor camera, below.
This time it’s not “just” a custom bodied Dragon. Michael Bay gets a new sensor too in the form of an 8K super 35mm sensor known by the moniker “Helium”. What makes this sensor different from the 8K VistaVision sensor, is its size. To squeeze 8K into a smaller super 35mm chip necessitates new (smaller, denser) pixels. I’ve been told that smaller does not mean any compromise in imaging performance, quite the opposite, these are “better” pixels.
