They grow up so fast! Today marks a major milestone in the life of every successful trading card game as the Transformers Trading Card Game bans its first card, Swap Parts, from official tournament play. The announcement was made to Facebook with a lengthy and interesting explanation of the problem that Swap Parts created, the possible ways the design team could've solved it, and why they feel that banning the card was the best way to accomplish what they want to do. It's very rare to get such an in-depth look in how such decisions are made, and we applaud Wizards, Hasbro, and the team for making it known in this fashion.
A quote from the announcement follows - click through to Facebook for full details.
Swap Parts is retired from constructed organized play, starting Friday, April 19, 2019. This means you may not include any copies of Swap Parts in your decks when playing in a constructed event, including all constructed events in stores or at conventions. This decision does not affect sealed, turbo, or draft play. If you open Swap Parts in a booster pack as part of a sealed or draft event, you may use it. Lead Designer Ken Nagle is next up with an in-depth explanation of how we arrived at this decision.
