According to China Box Office (@Manvendra_CBO) on Twitter, Bumblebee has been granted a one-month extension in Chinese theatres! That's something that can definitely be seen as a mark of success for the film we've all come to see as an... well, an underdog entry in a multi-billion-dollar franchise, stupid as that sounds to write. But China has strict controls on how long movies produced overseas can be shown in cinemas there, and if the distributors of Bumblebee went to the trouble of getting an extension, that's an excellent sign.
It looks increasingly as though this will not be the last installment in the Transformers film franchise as many feared. Congratulations to direct Travis Knight and all of the cast and crew, and we hope that the people above you at Paramount take the right lessons from this: character matters. Story matters. Aspects of film other than spectacle matter.
