Titans Return Chromedome Update - Legends Head Variant Real, Probably Not A Running Change
RAC - Thursday, March 02, 2017

Yesterday, we posted a story about a sighting of Titans Return Chromedome with the TakaraTomy head design. Since we posted that story, TFW2005 user Jedi Kermit has posted some more images that pretty well solidify what we're looking at here. Keep reading for our thoughts!

Update on the Titans Return Deluxe Chromedome found with Legends Chromedome's Headmaster: probably not a running change, but it IS real!

As you can make out in this photo, this is straight-up the TakaraTomy Headmaster figure in place of Titan Master Stylor. Same paint applications and all, and even the tan body (with a different shade of tan!) in place of Stylor's brown. This makes the running change hypothesis effectively impossible; it would have to be prohibitively expensive to run a set of TakaraTomy Headmasters, paint apps, plastic changes and all, and throwing them in with stock Chromedomes. This, coupled with the photos showing a wholly untampered package, pretty much leaves straight-up factory error as the source of these mystery figures.

How could that happen? Of course I have a hypothesis:

Let's assume that Hasbro's Chromedome was run before TakaraTomy's, but that they were basically run at the same time in the same factory. Things happen; figures get improperly painted or molded, and things get rejected. So, you're at the tail end of Hasbro's run, you have a handful of otherwise salable but headless Chromedomes, and you have this big bin of heads for the TakaraTomy version coming in. So you grab a couple and get the figures out the door and ready to ship.

I may be wrong, but either way this Chromedome variant is likely to be extremely limited. But they are out there - Happy Hunting, fellow collectors!

The end of the IDW Transformers universe as we know it proceeds in July, with the first two issues of the Unicron miniseries takes us on a tour of Unicron's dinner buffet, while the double-dose of Optimus Prime issues 21 and 22 carries on the story, Meanwhile, Lost Light #21 and #22 move toward wrapping up the story More Than Meets The Eye embarked on so long ago, and wrapping it up with something completely different, we've got the second issue of the Bumblebee Movie's prequel comic tie in with 60's spy action. And be warned before proceeding, there are spoilers present in the solicitations for this month's books! That, and cover previews can be found below.
Two issues in one week! The Falling continues with "Chapter 3: The Ground" and "Interlude: The First Who Was Named," both written by John Barber and lettered by Tom B. Long. "The Ground" has art by Kei Zama with colors by Josh Burcham and "Interlude" has art by Sara-Pitre Durocher and Livio Ramondelli, with colors on Pitre-Durocher's pages by Burcham. This review does not contain the major spoiler for Optimus Prime #17 that can be seen in the Issue #18 preview! It's safe to read, so click here to do so!
Facebook group TFND has posted official photos of Power of the Primes Leader class Nemesis Prime! Probably destined to be an exclusive, Nemesis Prime comes with a sword which transforms into a bird companion named Giza - the name of Transformers Prime Nemesis Prime's Arms Micron! We also get our first look at the "Orion Pax" inner robot, whose name and/or true identity are not currently known... but that's sure not Pax's head. Keep reading!
Following the report of implausibly cheap trypticons at Ollie's Bargain Outlet in Florida over the weekend, we have some possible clarification on the issue. An individual identified as aurora51 reports finding Trypticon at a Nashville area Ollie's, however in this case they were priced at approximately $50 each. Whether it's a case of pricing varying by stores, or more likely a one-off employee error resulting in the now legendary $13 Trypticon, the reality is that while a good deal is still to be had, it not as good as we thought yesterday.
Bleeding Cool's Rich Johnston has posted some SPOILERS for Unicron #0, the Free Comic Book Day issue intended to kick off the universe-concluding event for IDW's Transformers/shared Hasbro universe. The excerpt concerns the origins of the Spaceknights and their armor, and how it all serves to closer tie together the already closely-aligned IDW comics. Keep reading only if you want part of Unicron #0 spoiled for you!
