Titans Return Deluxe Wave 4 - Do We Already Know The Entire Assortment?

Though wave 3 is only just now getting real traction in its retail release in the United States, we're already looking ahead to what's next. While the higher price points are easier to call given their lower number of units per case, the next batch of Deluxes isn't clearly called quite yet. But it only takes some digging to see that the information is out there in front of us via a range of sources. And what the next wave holds might be a bit unexpected. We've collected it together and we're going to break it down for you, so keep reading!

Our first real look at wave 4 was at Hasbro's pre-NYCC press event, where they debuted Perceptor in order to give us a nice extra something in the showroom. But the rest of that assortment remained under wraps for a good while. In just the last week or two, we've gotten more. Topspin was shown via a package scan for wave 4's Leader Class Sky Shadow, so that's a second spot in the case assortment covered. And the Collectors Club revealed their final magazine issue would have a feature on an upcoming Kup. That's easily presumed to also be wave 4, making three out of the set. Now, realizing this, and that there would only be one more figure left to reveal, I went looking for who that fourth spot might be.

The truth is, there has been no small amount of leaks and rumors concerning the later parts of Titans Return. Most of it is by word of mouth that can't be verified beyond the individual who claims to have an inside source, so one hesitates to repeat it as news. But we also have gotten pulls from store inventory information, which can be confirmed by additional people if needed. And while the rumors and the data have been coinciding fairly well, the store data often provides more than just confirmation. You get product batch numbers, which tend to help identify specific groups of toys.

For example, from a previous leak, we have the identification codes C1092 for Perceptor, and C1093 for Topspin. Wave 3 has numbers in the C027x range, in sequence starting from C0271, forming a clear group. Now, Kup's number is not currently known because there's a namespace limit in at least some store computer systems, but we're going to assume Kup is C1091 since that number is otherwise unaccounted for, and starting the assortment IDs at 2 seems strange. So everything lines up so far, C1091 Kup, C1092 Perceptor, and C1093 Topspin. That means whatever's left in the C109x batch is the last member of the wave.

And here's where we get a little surprise. There's a C1094 ...and a C1095. It looks like the wave 4 assortment might consist of five separate figures. That's wacky and unusual, isn't it? Also something we haven't seen in a first-run case since... definitely since the start of Combiner Wars, and maybe even earlier than that. Revision cases can end up including a higher number of individual figure styles by recycling figures from an earlier wave. But that's not what's happening here, and this is where we have to have the store data and the rumor information come together.

C1094 and C1095 are, respectively, Krok and Quake. These are figures that we have heard nothing official about so far, but leaked info sheds some light on. Krok is reportedly to be a recolor of Skullsmasher. Whether inspired or not by the Action Master character is not known, and indeed is irrelevant to this matter. Similarly, Quake is said to be a recolor of Hardhead. Now generally it's hard to take inside source rumors as credible for something like this, except that the source that gave this information has been proven right with just about everything else they shared prior to this, so it's likely to be reliable.

So Deluxe wave 4 is looking like it'll have five figures total, and two of those will be recolors (probably with new robot faces for their Titan Masters, at least). And the fun part is, we can make a good guess at the actual case assortment now, too. It might seem like dividing a case of 8 figures among 5 characters would be difficult, but that's why it's important that we think Krok and Quake are recolors. Those will be short packed. So here's what I'm expecting:

• C1091 Kup: 2x
• C1092 Perceptor: 2x
• C1093 Topspin: 2x
• C1094 Krok: 1x
• C1095 Quake: 1x

That gives us a full case of 8 figures with a case loadout that makes sense. Afterall, right now in wave 3, Breakaway is packed one to a case, being a new-face recolor of Chromedome. Unfortunately this could be a bad news situation for those who order whole waves online. As we saw almost every retailer inflate the price of the wave 3 set, it will probably be so again. But this time it'll be a set of five figures, more expensive to begin with, and with the "premium" applied the whole set might easily top $100 for those five figures at online retail.

It's not clear yet when we might expect to see wave 4 be officially solicited, verifying its complete contents. Presumably during January, though we can't rule out that the remaining figures might not be held off to debut at Toy Fair depending how production and delivery timelines might work out in actual practice. But we know they will be all revealed in the near future. And personally, working out little puzzles like this - and getting unexpected answers - is more fun for me than being handed the answer. So let's wait and see!
