Titans Return Deluxe Wave 4 - What's In The Case?

Titans Return Deluxe Wave 4 is shipping from selected retailers, and ExVee's got them! While he's hard at work on galleries and reviews, we're going to take a minute to reacquaint you with all five members of this Deluxe wave! You heard right: for the first time in a very long time, we've got a wave of Deluxes with five members! Keep reading to learn more about Quake, Krok, Sergeant Kup, Perceptor, and Topspin!

Quake was originally a Double Targetmaster who has died in at least three different comic continuities - and probably more than once in the original Marvel G1 continuity. Described in his original Tech Specs as a destructive berzerker, Quake's original Nebulan partners were named Tip-Top and Heater. Titans Return Quake, a recolor of Deluxe Hardhead, has a Titan Master named Chasm.

Krok is getting his very first alt-mode as a retail toy. Introduced in the G1 Action Masters subline as a mecha-soccer star whose kicks were as strong as 7.0 Earthquakes, he had a robot alligator buddy named Gatoraider. More recently, he has been featured in IDW's cult hit More Than Meets The Eye as a member of the Scavengers, a team of misfit Decepticon deserters. Titans Return Krok, a recolor of Deluxe Skullsmasher, has a partner named Gatorface - a name which probably does less to cause electrolyte imbalance in corporate lawyers.

Sergeant Kup is everybody's favorite cranky old drill sergeant, seen in pretty much every G1-derived continuity as a mentor to younger bots. He remembers the time back on Earth in 1987 - or was it Nebulos in 2007 ? - when he was partnered with a Targetmaster by the name of Recoil. He's had a new toy relatively recently, but these days he's an all-new Deluxe mold and working with a Titan Master name of Flintlock - named for a technology several hundred years newer than his traditional musket laser. (Though in fact muskets were in use for hundreds of years and were made in flintlock varieties.)

The verbose Autobot Scientist Perceptor is among a handful of personages considered difficult to render accurately within the sensibilities of a modern action figure product line. While his previous incarnation was that of a so-called "Scientific Expedition Vehicle," the current rendition of Perceptor has returned to his previous alternate configuration, that of a microscope. And a fully-functional one at that! Perceptor has a Titan Master companion designated as Convex, and is singular among products of the Titans Return Deluxe assortment in that he has a second alternate mode, that of a (rather haphazard) tank. This is a reflection of his original release as a Microchange action figure.

Topspin is the first new version of G1 Topspin since 1985. Originally one of two G1 Autobots known as Jumpstarters, he was also featured as a member of the infamous Wreckers. His Titan Master partner is named Freezeout, and the Titan Master alone is roughly equal in complexity to the original Topspin toy. His G1 mold was used for a figure called Salt-Man X, and the fact that we'll never get a modern version of a figure by that name makes me sad.
