Tokyo Toy Show 2016 - Legends Series Ginrai Confirmed, Further Remold From Titans Return Powermaster Prime?

Joining the range of other reports from Tokyo Toy Show, Twitter user and blogger tagoal related some interesting info that got a bit overshadowed by the reveal of MP Cheetor. TakaraTomy confirmed during their presentation that Ginrai is in development for the Legends series. But while a Japanese release of Powermaster Optimus is no surprise, it seems Takara is planning some substantial modifications for their release. You can keep reading to find out more!

There were three tweets about this. The first simply stating that Ginrai was in development. The second gives the important detail that there will be changes specifically versus Powermaster Optimus. That is, entirely new alternations to the mold rather than reiterating the changes in going from Ultra Magnus to PMOP, for instance. The third tweet gives a quick rundown of what's changing: The cab, the robot chest, legs, and arms will all see modifications.

Given a certain line of thought, the sum total of these changes seem to have a unifying theme: They would make it easier to add a Godbomber element. In which case the changes to the cab and robot chest would probably be to make both look more classically Optimus Prime, and in doing make the robot mode more Super Ginrai looking. Changes to the arms and legs could also be in service of attaching extra armor parts later in addition to any restyling that might occur.

Some are even speculating that these changes might even take the form of redesigning the toy to have a Powermaster (Godmaster) rather than a Titan/Headmaster. While this is certainly not outside the realm of possibility especially given that the mold as-is is not required to have its head removed for transformation, it may be a bit too early to expect a change of that sort.

In any event, it seems like there could be cause to wait before purchasing Hasbro's Powermaster Optimus Prime - but hopefully we won't have to stay in the dark for too long!
