They say the "third time is a charm", which WHP Global is hoping will recover their investment in the bankrupt company that acquired from the struggling Tru Kids Inc last year. With a couple of cold starts, followed by a pandemic. A return of Toys "R" Us (in name only) may actually happen this year, with Macy's stepping in to host Geoffrey and his toys. Plans are to have a presence in every Macy's store, with some of them as large as 10,000 square feet:
The toy stores will range in size from 1,000 square feet in smaller locations to up to 10,000 square feet in flagship Macy's in Atlanta, Chicago, Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York and San Francisco. The Toys "R" Us footprints may expand during the peak holiday season.
While this good news for the Toys R Us brand, a store within a store is not expected to be anything like the old days with a huge selection in aisles and aisles of toys. Almost surely, we are going to see something like the reduced offerings found at Walmart and Target.
