Okay, this is getting really freaking confusing. So is Arcee a combiner or isn't she? And are all three bikes identical? We didn't exactly have that answer pegged down, and a recent article from Inside Line doesn't make it any clearer.
The article spotlights luxury bike manufacturer Ducati, which has bikes in box the recently-released
Terminator: Salvation and in
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and reports that one of the company's bikes will merge with two other bikes to form Arcee. But that's not even the half of it.
So I suppose we should get the background out of the way. Arcee will be in the film. Screenwriter Roberto Orci revealed that Arcee would indeed be in the film, but didn't reveal whether or not she was going a combiner. Recent information by Paramount Pictures
officially confirmed that she will be in the film.
So to start our recollections going, let's start from the beginning.
Once upon a time...okay, sorry. Anyway, a
leaked call sheet during the Bethlehem, PA shoot revealed that Arcee would consist of three bikes, which was similarly confirmed by an article way spotlighted a custom bike company called
RetroSBK.
The article revealed that the company created six bikes in total: three "hero" bikes and three "stunt" bikes. We believed (and still do) that the hero bikes are for glamor, and the stunt bikes are for stunts.
Later, we got what we thought was some visual proof to our suspicion. A
behind-the-scenes video to help promote the "Bring Home a Hero" DVD re-release of
Transformers showed three identical, ridden by three identically-dressed women, chasing an Audi R8 at the Bethlehem Steel Mill. Also a
number of trailers show the triplet of robots chasing Sideways under their own free will
So that's Arcee is a combiner: 3
Arcee's not a combiner: 0
So this is where the "not a combiner" part starts to catch up.
During the
number of trailers, we see a triplet of what we can only assume as triplet of robots chasing Sideways under their own free will.
A listing within Wal-Mart computers revealed that Arcee would receive a
Fast Action Battler, and then some employee slipped up and clicked the "Activate" button on over a
dozen listings which revealed that Arcee would be getting a Deluxe class figure as well.
A separate listing for Chromia, another motorocycle robot, doesn't help the "Arcee" is a combiner either. However, our
first look at Chromia seemed to suggest that the figure can bend around to be able to become part of a combiner. So, that cancels itself out.
If you're not keeping track, that's 3 for yay, and 3 for nay.
But! This Inside Line article helps out the yays to squeak in a win by one point! The Ducati Hypermotard (no, we didn't make this name up) "will join with two other motorcycles to create Arcee, a female Autobot to stop the Decepticons as they return to Earth," according to Inside Line.
So the question continues. Is Arcee a combiner? We know that she and Chromia do co-exist. But does Arcee, Chromia, and the unknown sister combine to form...Arcee?
Like I said during one of the podcasts, I don't really care anymore. Although writing this up certainly doesn't help my "argument" that I don't care. Truth is, I'm dying inside not knowing what the hell she really is. Actually, that's not true. But I am curious!
I will leave it to this, though, I will commend Director Michael Bay on his (more or less)
scent throwing propaganda campaign he vowed against the fans way back in November of 2007, because it has worked.
While we know a large number of spoilers about the film, there are many things about
Revenge of the Fallen that we really don't know. Guess we'll find everything about in a little over a month.
