Furman Talks Reveal the Shield Battle In Space Comic Book Details

Now that the Transformers Reveal the Shield Battle In Space two pack has been fully revealed, Simon Furman, the author of the Rodimus vs Cyclonus, has revealed the premise of the packed-in comic book.

The script (w)rap is rather spoiler-ish, so take a look below.
The news is out — Hasbro’s Battle in Space set, featuring Rodimus and Cyclonus, comes with an exclusive comic book written by me and drawn by Boo. Up till now, I’ve kept quiet about this one, largely because I didn’t want to steal anyone’s thunder, and the script (w)rap for the issue has been, well, under wraps.

But now that both set and comic have been announced, it can be revealed (spoilers ahoy — so stop reading now if you’d rather not know) — the comic features an all-new, extra reel of Transformers the Animated Movie!

Yes, names not withstanding, this is a neatly spliced new story set within the framework of the existing movie, and focuses on Rodimus (Hot Rod) and Cyclonus in a pitched, no holds barred battle that presages the climactic transformation of Rodimus (Hot Rod) into Rodimus Prime.

The story also features Scourge, Kup, Wheelie, Galvatron, the Dinobots and more. No news yet (though feel free to leave a comment and update if you know more) when the Battle in Space set is due to hit stores. [The set will be out in December -ed]

These two figures are the same redecorated ones that are featured in the Asia-exclusive Challenge at Cybertron three pack, but have gotten a chrome Generation 1 Matrix of Leadership thrown into the mix.

This comic sounds like its gonna rock! Maybe the artist will be better then the cover looks? Idk though, but the story sounds aces! Kup! Dinobots! 86 movie! Hot Rod! Hells yeah!!!! :party

Kup is probably a safe bet at some point in the the future. There has been rumors, even in the club magazine, and they do have a fresh trademark on his name as of BotCon 2009. Kup's a pretty major character, so I'm assuming they'd like to get more mileage out of that trademark. I'd love that Unicron, but I doubt we'd see it until later in 2011 if not 2012. Movie 3 yanno, but would make a good holiday store exclusive. Did the last Universe release sell well? That might be a factor in if the 2010 version gets a U.S release. Hopefully it would be standard retail and not online retail.

So Kup is on the cover. This might support the rumor of him appearing in the Generations line?

Maybe??

Hopefully???

Im betting since all the other characters are in their toy incarnations, that Kup is in his too. MEANING it is the Kup we'llbe getting in (i assu,e) the "Reveal the Shield" line.

Unicron, i doubt this time around due to other *cough* movie 3 *cough* toys

Kup isn't in his G1 body though? could this also be a preview of the Generations Kup? I hope so.

Look at Rodimus, Look at the Sweeps, look at Cyclonus. On the cover

But this begs another question. Unicron is also on the cover :wat

Could Hasbro be thinking about bringing over the Takara Transformers 2010 Unicron also? :shrug

I was just thinking that too. Seeing as to how Generations Scourge can be seen on the cover, Im willing to bet that we might be getting wind of a Generations Kup soon. Maybe more Dinobots too?

Man I'd kill for a big Roadbuster figure right about now. Any news on when that fanmade Broadside is coming out (same company that made Warbot Defender, the name escapes me atm).

You sure its Fansproject? They made Warbot Defender, but I never heard of them making Broadside, nevermind I googled it.. That was way last year, you think they are still making it? But Roadbuster could easily fit Warbots robot mode. but would need a new alt mode

Yah, I would love to see a Generations Kup! And though I already own the figures in the Two-Pack... I'll most likely pick it up just for the comic book!

I'd go in for just the Hot Rod.

But then again that Cyclonus mold is really nice.

HMRC4EVR - 2010-10-04 @ 4:52 pm

With the protector armor coming out from FansProject having antoher Rodimus means you could have both Hot Rod and Rodimus Prime in your collection w/o sacrficing your only Classics Rodimus, or having to open up a carded one if you had a spare.

Getting even a slightly repainted Cyclonus is always good since that's such a good mold overall as it is.

Oh man, oh man, oh man...

I think I want the set for the comic just as much for the figures.
