Review: Universe Sunstreaker Figure

Rounding out the first wave of Universe figure reviews is Sunstreaker, the first of the original car brothers to roll out on this line. He's also one of the most anticipated figures to come out as of yet for Universe. See how he stacks up by clicking here for the review.

i love my sunstreaker & i can't wait to get sideswipe (the chest/head was fine on mine - not sure what's happening with all the US qc probs!?!)

FYI Sunstreaker's pointy-looking (almost missile-esque, some might say) gun also fits on his shoulder (either one).

You know I think I like that Idea (weapon fits on shoulder) better, heaven forbid if I get Sideswipe and find that the shoulder canon is a bit that does not attach anywhere on the figure in car mode. So yeah I guess I'll get Sunstreaker tomorrow and maybe prowl

I did the Madhammer technique and just braced the chest and pulled the head -CLICK and its done.

Does anyone have a link to the Head/chest fix on this guy?

This is the closest I've found....

I had one small problem, though. When I rotated the roof, the roof did not rotate all the way level (one side was lower than the other at shoulder level). Something was going on with the little gear mechanism, so I took an X-acto knife and trimmed a little bit of flash off. Not exactly sure what I did to fix it, but its okay now.

My Sunstreaker was like that. It bothered my ocd, and it bothered me worse knowing that Sunstreaker is very vain about himself. And psychotic...

Taking him apart, I fiddled with him for a bit and no-matter which gear I notched it on, it didn't sit correctly. One gear up and his head cocked back at an angle. Ever so slightly, but enough to cause it to jump back down a gear on occasion and tilt again in robot mode.

Eventually I unscrewed the geared wheel itself and discovered there's a little play to be had. I took a guess at the right position and screwed it back on. It worked!

Next thing I did was trim the gear's track that was sticking up on his right side. It wasn't needed and just made the top of his chest look uneven. (Even more so because at this point I was obsessing over it looking right. :07redface )

I was going to take pictures, but was too tired and didn't know this was a very widespread problem.

If anyone is still having issues, ask and I'll take some pictures and photoshop the before shots. :thumb

As for the yellow differences, when I picked mine up there were six Sunstreakers in Target that day. The discoloring is a ymmv kind of thing, because though each of them was off colored, it was to varying degrees. I picked up one with yellow that ALMOST matches. It's only slightly off, and that's enough for me to get used to it. :)

Sideswipe came with a shoulder mounted canon, why was this not added in the figure.

Firstly, cannon.

Secondly, you can mount Sunstreaker/Sideswipe's gun into holes on either side of the torso.

Sideswipe came with a shoulder mounted canon, why was this not added in the figure. That's why when I get to choose between the 2 it will be Sunstreaker be cause it will ultimately look closer to the original. All and all the Autobots look like total win for this line. So I think I'll get all the autobot for this line (except Side swipe).

I find that the the missile launchers that came with the crappy Camaro version of Deluxe Movie Bumblebee fit excellently onto the shoulders of this mold, so making a shoulder mounted cannon won't be very hard at all.

Although the shoulder mounted cannon was absent on the TV show, so I don't miss it too terribly much - just like I keep Universe Prowl's shoulder cannons stored away for that TV show look.

Picked him up Friday (along with Prowl). Thought I'd like Prowl better.

Prowl is nice, but Universe Sunstreaker...

I WUVS him. :kitty

I just think this mold is like 80% Sideswipe and 20% Sunstreaker.

I agree with this, but find it preferable. I was always a Sideswipe fanboy over Streaker.

But in fairness, I find the engine booster accessory thing to be completely unnecessary to either mode for Sideswipe, so at least Sunstreaker got the attention there, when it comes to accessories. I may even toss Sideswipe's out with the packaging.

Yeah, about all that...

I discovered a gift card in my wallet this evening, so... :redface

The funny thing is that I keep Sunstreaker in Sideswipe mode and I think he looks a lot better that way. And you can put his engine thingy on his back, er, chest, er... well you know.

So hey, wheee
