Hasbro announced today during a Investor Event at Toy Fair that a new line of building block toys for Transformers would be coming in 2011. When we say building block, think Lego. The line is being called KRE-O. Here is the official word on them:
This fall Hasbro will bring action and adventure to the construction aisle with the introduction of the KRE-O brand. The KRE-O brand provides builders ages 6 and up with the unique opportunity to enjoy popular Hasbro brands, like TRANSFORMERS, in a construction play pattern. From favorite characters and high quality materials to unique accessories and collectible mini figures, the KRE-O collection will excite builders of all ages. At launch, the KRE-O brand will offer twelve building sets featuring popular TRANSFORMERS characters including OPTIMUS PRIME, BUMBLEBEE, STARSCREAM and more.
The line will debut this weekend at the New York Toy Fair so we should have images and more information for you on this coming on Saturday, if not sooner. What we know is the first figure in the line will be Optimus Prime and that you will be able to build him in either robot form or truck and trailer form. What incarnation of the Prime character this figure will be based on is unknown, but likely will be a movie version. The figures are said to have things like ball joints for a wide range of articulation and tech panels. As mentioned, Prime will be the first figure coming in this line with more characters soon to follow. There was also indication that other Hasbro brands will get this building block treatment.
Stay tuned throughout the weekend for more information on this and complete coverage of the Hasbro showroom from the 2011 New York Toy Fair.
