Bumblebee Involved In Crash with Washinton DC Police Vehicle During Filming

Update: We have added videos in this post.

Fresh from the District of Columbia, we have images of the Washington DC shoot of Transformers 3!

The biggest news, however, is that the Chevrolet Camaro, Bumblebee's vehicle mode, was involved in a crash with a Washington DC Metro PD SUV.

The crash was not part of filming, and a police officer was responding to a call and drove through the closed off set.

The Chevrolet Camaro, which is Bumblebee's alternate mode, is damaged in the front end.

According to local ABC affiliate WJLA, the crash was not part of the movie.

A Metro PD SUV was responding to a call and took the quickest way to get from point A to point B and it just so happened to be through the Transformers 3 set, WJLA reports.

The video shows that as the Metro PD vehicle, with its lights on, crosses the intersection of the 300 block of Independence Avenue, the Camaro - followed by the Ferrari - broadsides the SUV.

The Metro PD officer was transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and the stunt driver of the Chevrolet Camaro seemed unhurt.

The images we grabbed show that the front of the Camaro is a little worse for wear, with carbon fiber parts and liquid spotted in front of the vehicle.

According to TMZ, the police officer was part of the Explosives Ordinances Division, and was reporting to a call located at 9th and F Streets.

The police will respond the quickest way possible, regardless of whether or not the street is closed, Metro PD tells WJLA.

Fox5 reports that the call went out on a different radio channel than the one that Metro PD was using to secure the perimeter for filming.

Additional images also show the crew assembling the mysterious construct that was spotted back in the days of filming in Chicago, IL.

As you saw most of the vehicles were driving away, they are probably off to the shoot at the Air Force Memorial, which is set to take place this evening.

Principle cast members are not expected to be at that shoot, and Tyrese will not be at Washington DC at all. He will be in Atlanta, GA filming Fast and Furious 5 he tells us in a Twitter update.

Take a look at over 100 images in the gallery below.

The rest of the shots include pretty much all of the Autobots, including Bumblebee, Sideswipe, the Twins, Ferrari 458 Italia, Mercedes Benz E-Class, Ratchet, Optimus Prime and Ironhide.

Our images indicate the street closures have already begun near the Capitol and the National Museum of the American Indian. The museum is the oddly-shaped building seen in some of the backgrounds.

Additional videos of the Camaro crash are available at the Fox5 and TMZ.

Transformers 3, rumored to be subtitled Dark of the Moon, is set for a July 1, 2011 release.

meh... it's an ugly car anyways.

If it is real, good thing it didn't happen in the Original TF movie of 07. That would have been a 3.5 million dollar crash. That rivals the Bugatti Veyron and Ferrari Enzo in terms of damage to dollars, not that they are even close but puts the price tag in perspective.

I think that accident was real. I think that would be a total *'RICHARD' move if it turns out to be "Shenanigans". Crying wolf like that isn't funny at all. :fire

* - substitute common abbreviation for Richard.

Can they get bumblebee repaired or are they going to get a new bumblebee?

It not that simple, first you must see if he can be repaired. Then see which option in faster, cheaper, and ultimately, better.

Are they still using custom-made Camaros, like in TF1, or are these modified production cars? Recall that for the first movie, they had Saleen build Camaro bodies that were grafted onto Pontiac GTO chasses(tricky since they're unibody cars). Not sure if they did that for ROTF or this movie.

No, ROTF and TF3 are using production vehicles with some mods specifically for the movie.

TF1 did that because it was still in concept stage, so the show car was one-of-a-kind and they had to take molds of the body style and do what you talked about.

$23K? Wow, you're cheap! You can barely get a bare bones stock Camaro with a V6 and a stick shift for $23k. This was one of the original concept vehicles specially rigged for Mr Bay. $23k to REPAIR it would be a cheap estimate, especially with all the carbon fiber.

Oh no, my friend, replacement cost would be more like $230k

I am sure with Bumblebee they have like half a dozen! But really, in the event of an emergency vehicle on the way to a scene etc. I wouldn't have cared how much filming the officer ruined. Scenes can be reshot, saving a life is more important!

Skorponok's Skorpions - 2010-10-12 @ 10:24 am

Well there's 23,000$ down the drain right there.

Wait, don't they normally have three of each vehicle?

Tfboy - 2010-10-12 @ 12:57 am

Its still pretty weird for the police to drive through a movie set, shouldn't it have been a closed set?

Well, in the article, it say that "most of the vehicles were driving away."

I'm guessing that while vehicles were rolling away, they had to open the road to let the vehicles out, when it was open, I'm guessing that the police vehicle saw the opening and sliped threw and hit Bumblebee, but that's just a threory.
