Transformers Dark of the Moon Extra Involved In Accident Awarded $18.5 Million Settlement

The Transformers Dark of the Moon extra involved in an accident that left her with permanent brain damage and a part of her skull missing has been awarded an $18.5 million settlement this week, reports the Chicago Tribune.

Gabriela Cedillo was part of a filming in Indiana where she drove her own car in a scene with stunt vehicles on September 1, 2010 when a tow cable pulling a stunt car broke loose and smashed through the windshield of her vehicle, according to an Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration report.

It was determined that improper welding led to the accident.

"Our view was that, if you do welds properly, things like this don’t happen," Todd Smith, the attorney for the family of Ms. Cedillo said.

The attorney also says she will need constant care for the rest of her life and a portion of the settlement will go towards the immense cost. Her brother says she can walk, talk and feed herself, but her cognitive judgement is off, reports ABC7 Chicago.

While Paramount Pictures initially said they would take care of all of her medical bills, "they did everything they could to avoid payment," Mr. Smith said in a statement, according to Deadline.com.

The website also reports that it was the possibility of Director Michael Bay and Platinum Dunes, his production company, getting dragged into the fray that led to Paramount to finally settle on the case.
