Yeah the Takara version is much more of a pinkish-purply red, basically very faithful to Hot Rod in the '86 movie. There are other differences too, like colour of headlights, paint detail on his collar and cuffs, the flame design on the hood, the darker grey face (IMO neither wins on the face -... read more

For toy accuracy, that's fine. I only brought up the height difference based on the cartoon where Hot Rod is shorter than Rodimus Prime.

The Hasbro version is definitely a darker red. The Takara gun has no detail on it. The paint apps on the Hasbro gun were a nice touch.

Thanks for the comparison pics. I didn't realize there was that much of a difference between the 2. The plastic on the US Hot Rod version looks more red. Is that just the lighting or is that accurate? I will say the US version looks better to me looking at them side-by-side. There appears to be ... read more

Picked up mine today in Totowa, NJ. There weren't any on the shelf, but I had called ahead and one of the managers I spoke to said he had 6 in his office. He was concerned that the packages would be damaged on the shelf so he kept them aside for the collectors. If I hadn't called first I wou... read more

I don't think it's necessary. Remember that the Hot Rod mode is a bit shorter than the Rodimus Prime mode - in both the Hasbro and TOMY versions.

Especially since there is not a true Rodimus alt mode. I didnt mess with the 1/8 of an inch "leg extension" in the pics above, because it looks off to me, creating another line under the line of the skirt. I love how they sneak in "Hot Rod Mode" next to the pic of alt mode on ... read more

Well its obvious that the Hasbro one is supposed to be Hot Rod instead of Rodimus Prime. That being said, it would have been nicer if the Hasbro one was shorter than the Tomy one by a little bit.

I have not seen anyone post comparison pics yet, so I figured I would share.

Transformers At The Moon has posted the latest in their series of deleted audio and extended scenes from the original 1984 The Transformers cartoon series! This time, they've got over ten minutes' worth of dialogue from "Heavy Metal War," featuring the first appearance of the Constructicons. Keep reading to see the video along with a transcript of the dialogue.
The closure of ToysRUs provokes a lot of emotions - sadness, frustration at the circumstances, and in some a misguided sense of satisfaction stemming from their latter-day pricing habits. But at some point in our lives a great many of us were ToysRUs Kids. And so longtime Transformers fan and ASMzine proprietor Phil Zeman has created the site I Didn't Want to Grow Up, which is accepting submissions of your stories and reminiscences of visiting what was once the premiere source of action figures for children and collectors. Click through for a link!
Few would guess the last piece to be reissued from the original Transformers Generation 1 series would be the music scores. Even thought the original cartoons have been reissued, updated and restored multiple times. Fans that have been asking for copies of the Original Sound Tracks (OST) masters have finally gotten theirs, on vinyl of all things. IF, they were fast enough to buy one of the 2,000 copies that sold out in less than 10 minutes. The good news is a second pressing is in the works.
ALL GOOD THINGS…! Rodimus and the Crusadercons have reached their final destination. The trouble is, it’s not Cyberutopia. In fact, it’s not ANYWHERE. But they’d better get used to it, because they’re going to be there until the end of Time…
After selling out their limited run within minutes, Enjoy The Ride Records has announced that their vinyl G1 soundtrack LP will be heading back to the presses later this year! Details and an exact timeframe are not known at this time, but it's good to know that access to this (at present) vinyl-only release will be expanding somewhat. Keep reading to see the announcement!
