Transformers MP-10 Convoy Ver. 2.0 Details From Takara Tomy

Takara Tomy have released the full details on the Transformers MP-10 Convoy Ver. 2.0 action figure. Many of us have been wondering what Takara is up to releasing the Convoy figure again as the 10th Masterpiece editon. thanks to Cybergundam blog, we get our first official looks that show the new mold with scaled down figure and trailer. That as some new enhancements you can about after the jump.

The MP-10 is really a whole new figure. Takara Tomy have scaled him down with more articulation and a number of enhancements. He is now the same height as the MP-9 Rodimus figure.

He as a storage for his Fusion cannon in Primes back. He has a battle axe. The inlcuded Matrix is smaller too. He can transform in one touch. Something that seems quite amazing as the MP-1 mold is a pretty complicated figure to transform.

MP-10 includes a human figure that can fit into the driver seat. It also has a silver Roller and the full base mode with service bay, and maintenance crane. I don't any missiles weapon feature on the crane.

The MP-10 set has been re-painted to reflect original Japanese animated look.

The the most shocking news about the MP-10 is the price. At 22,000 Yen / $270 USD, that is a lot of money for what is arguably less Convoy than the MP-4. Takara will be releasing this set in Japan only on September 24, 2011. Surely this will be imported by retailers in the USA for what will likely be at least $300 USD.

After seeing more and more photos and the detail of this figure.....I have to say I'm actually considering buying this one. I like the fact they made the little Spike figure to fit in the cabin. It looks nice after seeing more and more photos. As far as being difficult to Transform, I'd say if you haven't transformed him before you might get stuck. I like that the weapon stows away....I'm beginning to see a longer list of Pros than Cons now..... :tfevil

I think most would agree MP01 is hard to transform. It also looks fairly off in alt mode. I may by this one...

I love MP01 and dont think that MP10 looks better, just different, but the same. Am I making sense? From the picks I prefer MP01. I just dont understand why they went in this direction.

Supposedly, Takara did this to make a less complicated, more articulated homage to the G1 Japan convoy. It supposedly features one touch transformation. Which is impressive considering what a PITA MP01 is to transform. However, I agree and still like my MP01 better too.

My guess is Takara sees the MP01 and MP04 reselling for a lot of money and they feel there's still a market for them.

He's not a bad looking figure, but do you guys really think he looks better than the MP-01? MP-01 looks way more detailed.

I'd have to see them in person side-by-side, but I really don't think he's much better looking that MP-01, if at all...

More updates from Takara Tomy just in with news and more images of the MP-10 Convoy Masterpiece action figure set. We have some newer official looks at the scaled down, super articulated, ultra detailed version of the MP-4 Convoy with Trailer that is a homage to the orginal Japanese G1 Convoy release. They have listed Point 3 as "coming soon." So there's likely more to reveal about this figure. Read the Full News Story Here

I think we should all keep in mind that comparing the previous MP Convoy/Prime to this MP Convoy/Prime is like comparing apples to oranges in terms of design. We've got about 8 years separating these two figures (counting from when MP-01 was first released.) I expect that all the innovation that has happened the these past couple of years will have some influence on this newest rendition of our beloved hero. While the price may be steep for the Takara release, I'm sure Hasbro will do a domestic release for those who aren't trailer crazy.

First, I disagree that he looks better than MP-01/04 - regardless of the time between them.

Second, if it's "SO MUCH" different - and they are changing the scale and even releasing future stuff different also (omg, not more seekers!) - then they should have "STARTED A NEW SERIES!!!!" (just like Binaltech closed and they went to alternity).

It has NEVER been about the price to me - it's about diluting a quality, collector series with repaints instead of new molds. And the price point is high enough on this series to afford new molds.

No offense, but this post sounds more like a takara sales rep than a collector that has already invested $1500 in this series and is being told to accept that they have to start all over again, and get ready for more of the same. Maybe your fine with that - but i've got ENOUGH primes - in this series alone.

Yea, I was ok with them redoing Starscream (green to G1 colors); and then including a 'black prime'... but when they went to sleeping prime, last prime, ghost starscream (not to include 3 of the repaints came out in 2 versions - including an ehobby exclusive) - it was clear to me they had decided to go a different direction with Masterpiece, and start milking it for profits instead of keeping a quality, premium, collection-worthy series. The new MP-10 is the last straw for me. I'm officiall done with Masterpiece. I might get new molds, but I will not order 2 in qty any longer, and I will not get any repaints at all anymore (whereas, if they had kept them in proportion, they could have strung me along much longer).

Yes, the repaint potential, with the new scale is endless. I tell them what - I will buy MP-10 if they repurchase all the past MP characters in a different scale back from me. If they want to reimburse me the $1500+ put into them - i'd be glad to change scales now and start all over.

I guess we should have seen the way the MP line was heading way back when they tried to pass off a white Prime as 'Masterpiece Ultra Magnus'... :roll

There are strange rumours about future MPs too (G1 seeker with non-G1 alt mode supposedly), and now with this 'slightly different but smaller and more expensive' edition of Prime, I'm suddenly not looking forward to new releases the way I used to.

I can only hope that this new Prime mold gets used as basis for a transforming-trailer UM and a Powermaster Prime/God Ginrai... that would get me interested again.

it looks pretty sweet...and with this seeing i'm willing to buy the 2nd version of Rodimus Convoy too.....

To bad i have to order through teh interwebs....
