PHOENIX (KSAZ) - A freeway in the northwest valley is being closed for 5 days, but it's not closing for construction. It's the new Loop 303 west of I-17. A movie studio is in town to film its next installment of "Transformers."
The Transformers franchise has landed in Arizona, where crews are filming "Transformers: The Last Knight." Filming will happen along a 14 mile stretch of the 303, all the way from I-17 to Lake Pleasant Parkway. But that's not the only place they're filming. A Flagstaff superfan stumbled upon another Transformers set near Lake Roosevelt.
"We see a big brigade of maybe 20 or 30 cars all blacked out military vehicles. My friend was thinking it was special ops and then in the middle of it I saw an Autobot, and I knew right then it had to be transformers," said Kayleigh Lauzen.
Kayleigh's photos and videos are blowing up on social media. With fan Pages like "TransfomerCars" putting Arizona's landscape front and center.
"To have come across them on a weekend trip in Apaches was completely incredible and amazing I had no idea," said Lauzen.
The movie cameras will be rolling along the 303 because even a Decepticon knows our desert is more than meets the eye.
That 303 Closure will start from 2 a.m. Friday and end 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. Transformers: The Last Knight is scheduled for release June 23rd, 2017.
