Transformers: The Last Knight: Wave 1 Case Breakdowns, Plus Codenames Demystified (A Little)
RAC - Monday, February 27, 2017

TFW2005 has posted a couple of stories today with some interesting insights into the impending Transformers: The Last Knight toyline! Most notably, they've now posted (fully-codenamed) case breakdowns for Wave 1 of the toyline! Using this info, they're suggesting that Barricade is the character code-named "Mars," and that Bumblebee is codename "Saturn." Keep reading for more info and our analysis of the situation! Here's the case breakdowns:

C1333AS00 TRA MV5 PRE VOYAGER LUNAR ECLIPSE x 1
C1334AS00 TRA MV5 PRE VOYAGER JUPITER x 1

Alright, so let's start with the idea that Barricade is Mars. This seems like a pretty good bet based on what we know; the entire first assortment of the Premier Edition Deluxes is known, and when you compare to TakaraTomy's mystery listing - TLK-02 - Barricade seems like the obvious choice. Although... they freely announced the quick change Barricade, TLK-08, so why secrecy there? It makes little sense, but embargoes and corporate secrecy are like that sometimes.

If Bumblebee is Saturn, this means he has to have two separate codenames, because there is no "Saturn" in the Deluxe wave. If so, I'm thinking that "Gas Giant" is Bumblebee's other codename, because it repeats at the most pricepoints and at points where we've seen Bumblebee toys to be: Deluxe, Legion, etc.

What other names can we work out? Thanks to this listing, we can compare to the mystery listings above and work some things out. But we also get a few more mysteries. Comparing the lists, we get Grimlock as "Lunar Eclipse" if we assume "Gas Giant" = Bumblebee and "Mars" = Barricade. But that means that Optimus Prime would also have two codenames: "Jupiter" in the Voyager assortment, and "Four Moons" in the Legion class. This, too, checks out agains the 1-Step Turbo Changers assortment, and further narrows down "Supernova" as Hound.

So, here's what we know after all this:

"Jupiter" and "Four Moons" both seem to be Optimus Prime. One evil, one his normal movie self maybe?

"Gas Giant" and possibly "Saturn" both seem to be Bumblebee. Probably different codenames based on which body he's in?

"Mars" does indeed seem to be Barricade.

"Lunar Eclipse" is Grimlock.

"Supernova" is Hound.

The only code names on this list we haven't definitively nailed down are "Gamma Ray" and "Shooting Star." These pretty much have to correspond to Decepticon Berserker and Dinobot Slash, but we can't say for certain which is which.

More Transformers 5 The Last Knight News
One of the aspects of the Transformers movie franchise that rarely if ever generates discontent are the scores by Steve Jablonsky. Now - as has happened in the past with such films as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Paramount has made the score for Transformers: The Last Knight available on a "For Your Consideration" website in preparation for the Academy Awards. The Autobots Unite subline from The Last Knight sure turned out oddly. What was originally Walmart's exclusive contribution to the toyline largely never materialized through Walmart at all. Among them is a One Step Turbo Changer set of Bumblebee and Hot Rod, which we discovered this evening at a Ross location in middle Tennessee. This joins the Legion Class two packs in calling the closeout chain home after never finding space on Walmart's shelves. You can find a photo of the find below. The set was priced at $11.99.
Twitter user Tagoal has posted some images of the Transformers: The Last Knight Optimus Prime Clear Version that was released recently to coincide with TF5's Japanese home video debut! Sporting a lot of clear white and blue plastic, this is the Voyager mold available on shelves now (still) in the Premier Edition. It's kind of a shame that basically every version of this mold looks more appealing than the stock retail release, but even that one is a pretty nice toy in and of itself. A recent feature list on the online version of Rolling Stone sought to line up the ten worst films of 2017, Many choices seemed quite fitting, with few at least marginally surprising even just for where they scored on the list, if not their presence there to start with. But it's probably not that much of a leap that they gave the number one spot on the list to none other than Transformers: The Last Knight. While some fans might point to it as being on the better end of the series, that speaks very little for its quality in the larger arena of movies in general.
