Tokyo Toy Show 2012 Recap - Masterpiece Dominates with MP-13 Soundwave, Prime On the Fringe w/ Darkness Megatron, Jet Vehicon
It was Takara Tomy's turn to shine at this weekend's Tokyo Toy Show, and they did not disappoint.
While Transformers Masterpiece MP-12 Lambor (Sideswipe), MP-13 Soundwave, and MP-14 Red Alert showed up on retailer websites prior to Takara's announcements on stage, the designers still offered enough information to keep it fresh.
Of course, the Masterpiece stuff dominated, with previews up Soundwave's upcoming cassettes Ravage, Rumble, and Frenzy, and additional views of Lambor.
We get additional information from Transformers Prime figures, including looks at AM-15 Darkness Megatron and AM-16 Jet Vehicon.
MASTERPIECE
Takara has been grabbing some major headlines for these figures, and Tokyo Toy Show came out with a burst of fresh products, with three products slated for release this year, starting with MP-12 Lambor in October followed by MP-13 Soundwave and MP-14 Red Alert in December.
MASTERPIECE SCALE The scale of these three figures are shown off, and it now justifies why Soundwave is more than double the price of Lambor and Red Alert: the former figure is the same size scale as MP-10 Convoy and MP-11 Starscream, which is now the benchmark for the new Masterpiece figures that are coming out of late.
Lambor and Red Alert, on the other hand, are in-scale and makes it a little above the waist of Convoy and Soundwave. In fact, Lambor and Red Alert can hitch a ride in the MP-10 Convoy trailer.
MASTERPIECE MP-13 SOUNDWAVE Based on the comments throughout Friday and over the weekend on Tformers.com, the forums, and on our Facebook Page, a majority were floored at the first looks at MP-13 Soundwave and the news that Masterpiece cassettes would also be coming.
Armed with this information, Takara provided additional looks at Laserbeak hanging out in his confines in Soundwave's chest, and that the Amazon Japan exclusive Energon Cubes can fit right into Soundwave's chest when his plastic cavity is flipped down.
Additional cassettes that you can expect to come out are Ravage and the Rumble and Frenzy twins.
MASTERPIECE MP-14 RED ALERT While many already saw this character coming as soon as when MP-12 Lambor was revealed, Takara announced at Tokyo Toy Show that MP-14 Red Alert is going to get some upgrades, including a new head, face, shoulders, and neck, according to tyouhen2.
TRANSFORMERS PRIME
We finally get our first full-colored looks at AM-15 Darkness Megatron and AM-16 Jet Vehicon.
While we have not heard anything about this from Hasbro, Takara appears to be doing their darndest to differentiate between the land- and air-based Vehicon troop builders. The jet version will keep the traditional look and feel in robot mode, but will add some purple (or pink, depending on the camera) highlights to the figure.
