War for Cybertron
War for Cybertron Site Updated w/ Info on New Characters; Multiplayer; Classes
bwbm - Wednesday, May 12, 2010

Activision has updated the official website for Transformers: War for Cybertron to unveil three new character profiles: Autobots Jetfire and Sidewipe and Decepticon Thundercracker. The website has also added several new sections in the "Game" menu, adding capabilities of each class as well as revealing two previously unknown multiplayer modes, "Countdown to Extinction" and "Conquest." Read through for all of it.

Classes and Killstreaks

The abilities of all the classes have been revealed and each class has certain abilities and what are called "Killstreaks."

It is unknown how these will be locked. However, it could be similar to another Activision-published title Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Kill Streaks are bonus abilities that are unlocked in multiplayer when a player kills a certain number of players without being killed.

Each class has their own abilities as well as killstreaks.

The website has provided descriptions for the two new multiplayer modes, "Countdown to Extinction" and "Conquest," on top of the modes previously revealed. The descriptions are as follows:
    Countdown to Extinction
Defend your factor's base and save your team from extinction. Outmaneuver your opponents in order to seize the bomb in the center of the map and deliver the payload to the opposing team's base. Activate the bomb and hold your ground to wipe out your rivals. If the bomb is successfully detonated your faction is awarded a point.

Team based tactics are the key to victory in this mode. Teams vie for control of the 3 Energon nodes as they fight to capture nodes from the enemy team and defend the nodes they own. Teams earn points for capturing and controlling nodes. The first team to dominate the scoreboard wins.
We were also provided the biographies of two Autobots - Sideswipe and Jetfire - and a Decepticon - Thundercracker.

Jetfire is dedicated to the pursuit of science and believes technology will ultimately give the Autobots victory over the Decepticons. Jetfire keeps himself completely cutting edge and up to date, making him the fastest Autobot ever created. Jetfire became an Autobot after disagreeing with the methods used by the Decepticons and Starscream in particular.

Weapons: Neutron repeater, Energon club
Abilities: Spawn sentry, Hover
Personality: This is no grey area for decision. Strong moral compass.

Sideswipe is built for speed. Whether that's in combat or out of it, he moves fast. Very fast. He enjoys the thrill of battle, but more for the sport and competitiveness than the end goal. Being very competitive, Sideswipe will do anything he can to win, cheat notwithstanding. Nothing out of the question when everything is on the line. Some call him reckless and brash, but he does what it takes to win. Every time.

Weapon: Neutron repeater, Energon Blade
Abilities: Whirlwind, Dash
Personality: Hot-tempered, fast talking

Serving alongside Starscream and Skywarp, Thundercracker is a part of the main force of the flying fleet of the Decepticons. Thundercracker despises those who cannot take flight and views himself as being superior to those that cannot. He reigns supreme in the air, having excellent skills in aerial combat and maneuvers. Thundercracker sometimes questions the Decepticon cause, but imagining Megatron's wrath always quiets his discontent.

Weapon: Neutron repeater, Energon mace
Abilities: Spawn sentry, Barrier
Personality: Confident, Aggressive, Strong

I hope to god we get these three as toys in the generations line.

I'll be grabbing the PC version in addition to the 360 version, considering it's only $39 on Amazon I don't feel bad for double-dipping on this one. I only hope that with Sideswipe's reveal we eventually get Sunstreaker too. If he doesn't appear in the game, playable or not... read more

Sorry man, 360 all the way for me. I think our good buddy 4RL Deal is getting it for PC however.

You raise a good point, Breaker. Speaking of playing ... anyone else getting this game for PC? I hope I'm not the only one; it'd be cool to get some kind of clan going for the PC faction.

You kiddin? I cant wait till it happens to me! Because that would mean that I have the game and playing it!

Wow. I hope they release a book with all the character Artwork. I will buy that in a heart beat. I hope they focus on making the figures for this line. I can almost see the EPIC movie. I would say that Jetfire as an AutoBot is the liberty they are taking in balancing the plane characters. I'm ... read more

From the back story that is giving in the G1 episode, Jetfire was a scientist with Starscream, it lead you to believe it was before the war or before these two took sides. Jetfire left Cybertron for exploration, he didn't pick a side till he was thalled out and Megatron manipluated him into joi... read more

As per , Jetfire was already a part of the Autobots, though he does still have a "history" with the Decepticons that was never fully revealed". This left an air of distrust towards him among some of the others, especially Grimlock.

If the game is good enough, and they give us a good story, I'm sure we'll all forgive the little changes like when did Jetfire turn into an Autobot. I just hope we get background appearances and cameos from other characters, I would love to see Hound, Kup and Prowl, even if we only see them... read more

As per the cartoon, Skyfire (Jetfire) was neither a Decepticon nor Autobot on Cybertron. He and Starscream were scientists from Cybertron who came across the uncharted planet (Earth) that Skyfire crashed to and was lost until millions of years later when the Decepticons found him and recruited him ... read more

Activision Publishing, Inc. and Hasbro today released two new video game bundles that are more than meets the eye: TRANSFORMERS: ULTIMATE BATTLE EDITION for Nintendo’s Wii system and TRANSFORMERS: ULTIMATE AUTOBOTS EDITION for the Nintendo DS™ hand-held system. Both titles combine two full games from the epic, galactic saga between the AUTOBOTS and DECEPTICONS into one package loaded with adventure and value for this holiday season.
So, it seems lately that there's always something I don't like about Optimus prime figures and their paintjobs. Last time it was PRID OPtimus that I had to do something about, and since I've just got my Corbot V war axe in, I decided to finally tackle WFC Optimus. Check out the full makeover list after the jump
For those who are worried that they if they jump into Transformers War for Cybertron multiplayer now will be extremely far behind, have no fear: the multiplayer XP will now multiply by five starting on Monday until forever. This change is in effect for Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony Playstation 3, and PC versions only. So if you have been looking to max out all of your classes but have been too lazy to do it with only a 1 to 1 ratio for points, how about 5 to 1?
