USA Today Awards The Transformers Vs. GI Joe 'Most Insane Read of 2014'

USA Today's comics critic Brian Truitt has written his 2014 In Comic Books column and has awarded Tom Scioli and John Barber's The Transformers Vs. GI Joe the coveted title "Most Insane Read" of 2014. We agree, and like Truitt we mean that in a good way! Most Insane Read: Transformers vs. G.I. Joe. On the surface, it makes some sense taking two 1980s comic/cartoon/toy franchises and tossing them together for nostalgia's sake. But that's where it gets weird, with tons of colorful kitsch, camp and odd pairings of classic characters visualized by artist Tom Scioli like a kid hopped up on sugary breakfast cereal.
