All-New Takara Soundwave Functional MP3 Player Figure
By bwbm on Monday, January 22, 2007
BigBadToyStore has put up a pre-order for a brand-new Takara Soundwave action figure featuring an all-new mold as well as a fully-functional MP3 player. According to BBTS, the MP3 player is slated for a July 2007 release and will function in both the cassette and robot mode. A mini-SD card slot is revealed when the cassette door is opened. Battery size is not yet known, nor is the size but BBTS hints that it should be smaller than the Generation 1-sized Soundwave so it will easily fit in a pocket. The figure will come in two colors: Soundwave's original blue colors as well as the white color, which BBTS says is a tribute to the Apple iPod music player. Check out the figure in both robot and cassette mode in the full article.

God knows i love BBTS (hell, i've sure sent them enough money) but they're charging 109 bucks for this thing?
Now granted it IS an MP3 player, which is not cheap to begin with, but Jesus......that's a whole lotta dough

I live in Kanda, Tokyo and in BBTS defense their prices are about inline with the prices over here (of course it's cheaper out here because you don't have to ship it to Wisconsin) but they aren't price gouging or anything. I bet this will cost about $80-$90 retail out here.

THANK GOD!! Finally some relief from those lame movie toys... The Japanse people know what the fans want, which is the complete opposite of what Micheal Bay is giving us. Only one problem...EXPENSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!

That's just prime! ^^ I don't know if I can afford it or if I would ever use it on the streets but this item is really tempting and appealing to me as I am both a fan of music and Transformers. This reminds me of a rather obscure quote from "S.O.S. Dinobots": "That's what I call Heavy Metal!" ^^

What a great idea eh? Perhaps it might also "dock" unofficially with the Ipod Convoy too? Regardless, I also hope they dont paint either pink, with flowers and make them KISS Players cutie cutie sounwave with balerina figure and j-pop mp3 track included.
Methinks the classics line is being released in the summer in japanland to "combat" or "complement" the movie toys....

Digital Toys is selling both the blue and white versions together for $174.95. The blue version is more than likely going to be more popular than the white one.

how many minutes of music/total memory does it hold?
I'd imagine now that wouldn't be all that much, given the tiny size of the player.
